Ratings Report: Most Shows Stay Flat

We’ve got some new ratings for the newest week of the syndicated season ending on October 17th.  The best news of any show was Wheel of Fortune.  It’s the only show which managed to go up.  Wheel went up 2% to a 6.6.  Incidentally that’s the season’s highest rating for Wheel so nice job for them.  Wheel‘s companion show, Jeopardy!, stayed flat at a 5.5, and flat is as good as any other show did so that’s good news for them.

The rest of the shows were either flat or down a little bit.  B&C says it’s because of baseball and they understand the whole ratings game a lot more than I do so I’ll trust them.  Who Wants to be a Millionaire was one of two shows to lose steam.  It dropped down 5% to a 2.1 rating.  The other show to fall was Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader, which well 10% to a 0.9 rating.  That type of rating won’t bring it back for a third season.  Family Feud managed to stay flat at a 1.5 rating, and Don’t Forget the Lyrics! stuck at .8.

We’ve been tracking Channel 4′s The Million Pound Drop.  It’s managed to retain most of its audience from the first series.  The first night saw around 1.9 million viewers.  Last night’s show rose to a pretty good 2.3 million viewers.  The show airs at 10:00PM in England, which isn’t the best time for a quiz show, and given they rarely give away anything I imagine they have to be pretty happy with that.  The first night saw over 100,000 people play the online game, and you can play here anywhere in the world at 5:00PM ET (10:00PM UK time).

Series 2 of The Cube started off with 4.98m but last weekend that figure had hit 5.68m, that’s a pretty decent increase in my book.

Is Family Feud” doing a Halloween themed show?

For Harvey’s first season, I doubt it. Karn and O’Hurley did Halloween shows in costume, as did Ray Combs. Dawson’s 1994 return didn’t feature him or the contestants in costume (although the set was decorated for Halloween), and I don’t suppose Anderson did an episode with such a theme as far as I’m concerned.

  • Facepalm.

Comparing a 1.0 rating last week to a 0.9 rating this week is useless.
