Ratings Report: “Family Feud” Hits Season High
New ratings for the the week ending November 21st are in, and the sweeps period was very good to games. In particular, Family Feud is riding a high wave of critical praise and increased ratings since Steve Harvey took over as host. The week ending the 21st saw Feud increase by 6% to a new season high of a 1.7. It’s slowly marching towards the 2.0 rating and I don’t know when the last time that’s happened for the show. Most impressively Feud has increased by 31% season to date. Looks like we’ll be seeing Family Feud for some time to come.
The biggest percentage increase for any game was for Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?, which went up 11% to a 1.0 rating. In the grand scheme of things going up 11% for a rating that low isn’t some massive increase, but any double digit increase helps the struggling second season. Fifth Grader has lost nearly half its rating from the first season to now and it’s just not looking that good for the show unless it can keep rising. Its sister show, Don’t Forget The Lyrics!, has been stuck at a 0.9 rating for a while.
The rest of the shows saw some increase except for Wheel of Fortune. However, Wheel dropped only 1% to a 7.4 so that’s practically nothing. Jeopardy! saw a 2% increase to a season high 6.0. Who Wants to be a Millionaire continues to stay in it, rising 5% to a 2.3.

Big congrats goes to Feud! I love Steve Harvey, one of the Original Kings of Comedy, and everything he brought to the Feud table! Like I said, there are more funny moments in a single Harvey episode than a Dawson season. My only gripe to the show is that he doesn’t get to properly introduce us to the families; he just jumps right into the first Face-off. I’d like to see more of a proper family introduction in the future.
My guess to why that is the case is to allow great moments to shine in the show like they have. “Feud”, like every game show, is suffering from time issues compared to what it used to be. I REALLY miss the intros too. One of the first things I noticed when I watched the first episodes, but I THINK eliminated those are allowing Steve to milk great moments…
That’s good news for Feud. Steve’s doing a great job as host, I think he should branch out a little more.
5th Grader’s increase is also good news. Now we know that if there won’t be a third season, it will go out swinging for the fences unlike a certain game show we know *coughDealorNoDealcough*.
Lastly, IMO, Don’t Forget the Lyrics should be exclusive to VH1 because stations are putting it in undesirable time slots, not to mention it airs on The CW Plus in some markets.
As my observations are concerned, there are interviews on the Harvey series, but they’re removed from approximately 70 to 90% of all episodes in one season. Should the interviews be aired, they are poorly edited out of place.
Maybe 5th Grader would be a good GSN original with a $25K top prize if the syndicated version doesn’t get renewed. Even new episodes of Lyrics for VH1 with lowered stakes if necessary.
And considering he was taping 8 shows a day, he looks to have plenty of steam..

I give them credit for being able to tape eight shows in a day. Wonder how long the tape days were this season, seeing this is era of taking multiple hours to tape one hour long episode of NBC DOND, for example.
Come check us out next season!! ;-)
I love Steve Harvey Family feud it sucks they took it off our Market but i hope next season they ditch the Combs theme
what game shows i think should never made it to air are as fallows
Chain reaction
1vs100 (carrie ann’s) verson
Thats the question (even though gone for a long time)
catch 21
and the game shows that should be brought back
Greed
sale of the century
Some should be added
lottery game shows(any one)
and since there is so much poker on there there should be a channel for poker alone
(i hope you agree on my points)

You think Rich Fields being a sub-announcer might have something to do with that?
