Ratings Report: “Family Feud” and “Millionaire” Hit Season Highs
Our genre has been doing extremely well the past few weeks in the ratings. Two shows the week ending December 13th, the two to watch the most this season in reality, hit season highs. First is Who Wants to be a Millionaire which gained a great 13% to a 2.7. It shows how much I know about predicting this stuff. I mean looking at ratings and you almost wonder why a lot of shows bother with big money Sweeps stunts, since middle of December ratings did better than that big period. Always glad to see Millionaire do well.
The other nice gain was Family Feud, up 8% to a 1.4. Again, it’s a season high. I blather on and on with praises on Family Feud, so I’ll skip that and just say I get such a smile when I see the show do better or just as well than other bigger money shows. I don’t see how we won’t be seeing it for an amazing 12th season. If they do and you live in the LA area I can’t recommend seeing Feud in person. It’s a great experience. See Millionaire in person as well, if you have the chance. You won’t be at a more exciting taping, and Meredith is great. Deal or No Deal also gained a fantastic 8% to a 1.3. We’ll see if it’s enough for another season.
Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy continue to chug away with gains each. Both gained 3%, with Wheel at 7.5 and Jeopardy at 6.3. Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader froze at a 1.6. Finally, in what can liberally defined as network news, MyNetwork is actually doing pretty decently now. If you’re not aware they air Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? and Deal or No Deal on Tuesdays. The shows have helped the network increase by 75% on that night. With that sort of growth you’d have to figure they’d think about doing more game shows in the future.

Good news all around. Deal or No Deal got off to a slow start this season, but I think this should be the shot in the arm it needs. Would it be good enough for a third season? Only time will tell.
5th Grader is in its comfort zone, if it stays at 1.6 it should be fine.
And who agrees with me that the Bullseye Round (not to mention winning a car) made Family Feud better? Not that it wasn’t before. I’m with you, Scott Meckley, they should use the side score to show how much they earn and just use the camera angle from the Dawson/Combs version to show the score in the main game.
The one thing that surprises me is that My Network TV is doing well considering the fact that most of its affiliates bailed on them after announcing last year that it was becoming a programming service. You’re right, Alex, they should consider adding more game shows, possibly replace its movie night or take away one of the episodes of either Law & Order:CI or The Unit and air more game shows.
here are my comments for the various shows
Family Feud- I love the bullseye round but think they should use the score on the side to show how much it in the bank and then points on the main board
Millionaire- I am getting used to the timer and i'm starting to like it. I don't really care much for the categories on the side. I also don't like that you go from $10,000 to $12,500 it's just a little weird to me. I think it should go $5,000, $7,500, $10,000, $15,000, $20,000 and $25,000. I do enjoy watching Meredith though and i like her more than Regis on MIllionaire.
Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader- I actually like this version better than the primetime one. I like that you have to play all ten subjects. I wish that version would come out on PC, DVD or XBOX 360 to play.
Deal Or No Deal- I like the gameplay better than the primetime version. I wish though it would be one contestant and 22 models.
