Ratings Report: Everybody’s Down

Sweeps are over and back-to-normal ratings are coming in.  I feel like mentioning Wheel of Fortune first.  By the way, all the ratings come from the week ending March 14th.  Wheel was only down 1% to a 7.3, and of course it was still the highest rated syndicated show.  The interesting thing is that they really didn’t save the big money wins for Sweeps like everyone else tends to do.  They’ve apparently had a few $100,000 winners in the past week or so.  It’s a bit interesting that they didn’t put these in the month that really mattered at this time: February sweeps.  But I don’t think Wheel really has to worry about that.  Out of all the syndicated shows I don’t think they need much help getting anyone.  Jeopardy!, Wheel’s very exclamatory sister show, slid 2% to a 6.3.  Yet again, I doubt they care much.

The other shows were also down.  Who Wants to be a Millionaire lowered 4% to a still-decent 2.5.   They’ve got Dancing With the Stars week next week so we’ll see if that can help at all.  Also Millionaire was in reruns right around this time so don’t read too much into losses.  Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? was the only show to not lose viewers.  It stuck at a 1.6.  You can be pretty sure they are jumping for joy at the great business plan of airing the show on MyNetwork to help those ratings.  Family Feud, which is now casting for the twelfth season, went down 7% to a 1.3.

Amusingly Broadcasting and Cable doesn’t even bother with Deal or No Deal ratings anymore.  It’s a goner.  They aren’t good.  Why bother?

Other ratings can be found on the ratings page.

It does strike me as odd that Wheel of Fortune didn’t either. They had 3 $100,000+ winners in the last couple of weeks, not to mention the last 2 days (one couple winning a total of $100,000 on Monday, and one actually winning $100,000 in the bonus round last night). Can we play our hunch that there will be another one by the end of the week, or even the end of the month? Who knows? It also strikes me as odd that they’re not even posting the ratings for Deal or No Deal. They’re probably thinking that it’s a goner in September so what’s the point? As for the ratings, an off week for the genre but it’ll get better.

Overall, nothing really surprising. And as far as Deal getting ignored, that's (wait for it) no deal (yes!!!). It would be a deal only if it's the extremely repeated episodes on GSN that aren't listed. Wheel has been crazy with the winnings this week, which is odd timing since sweeps usually take precedence, but again, it's no big deal.

It's not odd that they didn't show them during sweeps for a few reasons:
    1) Anyone that watches "Wheel" knows Sweeps is always "on the road" episodes. They weren't gonna change it up just for a few wins when the people that watch the show are gonna watch anyway.
    2) They're the only show, except "Jep!" and "Price" that actually air pretty much in order. The tape date they tell the audience the show will air pretty much is the truth and won't be changed. This can seen by the fact that there's been a few years of season premieres with no wins. Finally…
    3) They're #1. They don't need to worry about sweeps at all right now! :D

Why bother? To see how far down it goes before it finally leaves the airwaves. I would guess that, when B&C stopped caring, they were around 0.8 — now, though, it's likely 0.5…or far less.
