Ratings Report: Eh

Posted by Alex Davis On November - 12 - 2009

November on Daytime Deal or No DealThis has the potential of being a rather short ratings report this week because, frankly, not a lot went on.  The show we’ll focus on this week, though, is Deal or No Deal which is currently in its second season.  Ratings haven’t been that hot in a while.  The show is still stuck at a 1.2.  It’s been there for a while.  I’ve already blathered on and on about how I really doubt this syndicated edition, which is so much better than the primetime edition, will see another season with its current level.  Now comes a small report from our friends at Hollywood Junket saying production has halted.  They aren’t saying the show is canceled, but sources are saying that the show is looking for other states to tape in.  Are they trying to make Deal or No Deal a road show or something?  Good luck with it.  I think it’s just the nice way of telling some outlet that it’s gone without causing the fans to get into a panic.  Any time I’ve ever been told from people close to a show that it’s only on hiatus and no decision has been made, it’s usually canceled.

The rest of the shows weren’t looking too hot beyond Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? which inexplicably is doing really well.  It went up 7% to a 1.6.   The other show perking up is Who Wants to be a Millionaire which went up 4% to a 2.5.  The Tournament of Ten has been pretty exciting so let’s see if the ratings pick up because of that.  Family Feud stayed flat at a 1.2.  Jeopardy! was also flat at 5.8 which is fantastic as always.  The only one to go down is the one on top always.  Wheel of Fortune which went down 4% to 6.8.  It’s still better than most other shows on television, though.  And there we are.  Pretty flat this past week.  It’s been Kansas week in game shows.

  1. Darkbeer Said,

I am a fan of the Syndicated version of "Dumber than a 4th Grader". They have done a lot to improve the show, not just in the quicker pace, but also the questions work, some are challenging, some are good for the rest of the family.

Plus the special weeks, such as this week's Sesame Street tribute with "Co-hosts" from the show (aka Muppet's). It was great to see the NASCAR week when the drivers pledged extra money to Charity, along with some of their sponsors.

To be honest, I rather have a show where I am required to think a bit, than just have a "lucky" guess to see if I win.

But surprised that "Dumber than a 4th Grader" couldn't find a sponsor for its Prepaid Debit Cards. Seems like someone like Walmart would be a perfect match and would help in production costs.

  3. Rich Said,

A little off-topic, but has to do with Deal or No Deal:

Looks like Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving will be a Deal or No Deal marathon on GSN, according to the schedules up at Zap2It, which of course are subject to change.

A little snippet from Game Show NewsNet:

"But, wait, there still may be a glimmer of some hope left. “At first, we were told the show was wrapped for good,” according to one source who also stated that it’s actually on hold, and that production is looking into filming the show in other cities such as Atlanta."

Don't quote me on that, okay. Just hoping the show isn't done for good.

BET's Pay It Off tapes in Atlanta,so fine. They could steal a page from the other Deal's playbook, and tape in Las Vegas. The casino would pick up most of the cost to produce the show, including the grand prize, if they negoitate it right.

  7. Concerned GSN Viewer Said,

Wouldn't the show (DoND) have already taped the entire 2nd season over the summer?

  9. Scott Meckley Said,

I would love to see DOND come to Kansas City or St. Louis for taping. I tried out twice for the primetime version when it was on and didn't get on. I'd like to at least get on the syndicated version and even if i leave with over $10,000 or more i feel great. While i don't get to watch the syndicated version all the time i try to watch it when i can and i really hope that it stays on for a while.
