Ratings Report: “Deal or No Deal” Rises after Second Season Renewal

NUP_113891_0036In this week’s ratings, there’s not a lot of good to discuss.  Everything seemed to be flat or down except for Deal or No Deal which seems to be hanging in the same level for the last few weeks.  But hey, stability is good.  This week it went up 7% to a 1.6.  It’s still behind The Doctors which is at a 1.8, but those two have been battling it out for the entire season.  They can battle more next season.  Remember, season two of daytime Deal or No Deal is moving to Connecticut to save the budget, so it may be able to sustain itself longer with its current ratings over on the East.  I don’t think it would last long in Los Angeles with its current rating.

NBC’s series finale of Deal or No Deal only drew a 3.4/5 in its final two hour episode.  It’s stunning how far that show fell off.  It used to be able to compete with the big shows.  Format abuse, not to mention scheduling abuse, absolutely destroyed it.

In the rest of the syndicated game show world, we’ve got good news and bad news.  The good news is that Trivial Pursuit moved off the .6 rating it’s had from the start!  The bad news is that it went down to a .5.  On the 2009 Game Show Awards red carpet, we asked Christopher Knight, host of Trivial Pursuit, about what happened to his show.  He said it’s not going away because of ratings, but from a lack of budget.  Chris is more gullible than I figured, apparently.  Wheel of Fortune dropped to a 6.5, Jeopardy! was down to a 5.3, Who Wants to be a Millionaire tied the season low at a 2.3, but the decent news for Family Feud is that it was flat at 1.4  The 11th season of Family Feud starts taping very soon.

It’s gonna be interesting to see – could there be a renaissance of East Coast game shows, with daily DoND moving to Connecticut, and Pyramid doing its pilot in NYC?

Close to the end of the year, May sweeps ending a few days back, no surprise ratings slipping a bit. Maybe – just maybe – somehting alongside of daily 5th Grader could perk up the listings come September, be it CBS’s Pyramid, LMAD (if they see the light of day) or something else not mentioned yet. What if GSN allowed some of its originals (Catch 21, especially) to go syndie? Would the people watch?

You have an interesting point, MikeSant318, what if GSN does allow some of its originals to go into syndication? even its old originals. I would love to see Lingo, Russian Roulette, or even Whammy in syndication.

It’s no surprise TP:AP is having budget problems. Lack of promotion (thanks to Fox butt f**king Mark Walberg out of hosting) can do that to you. I think Deal will have longevity now that it’s moving to Connecticut in the fall.
