If anyone watches Quiznation anymore, did you happen to see it on July 21st? Reader Chad M. clued us in on this video, and something fishy is going on. On the game “Word Slam”, there is a list of letters and you have to make a word of a given length. They were looking for a five lettered word for a good deal of time. Shandi accidentally gave out the answer by saying “It’s not _______”, even though it was. They barely acknowledge the situation, and when they do it’s a few minutes plus a commercial break later. Instead of ending the game, which is the responsible thing to do, they continue to take callers with big money on the line after saying that it’s not the correct answer. Something is horribly wrong with that situation.
They should have to own up and say that that they made a huge mistake or refund people their money, like British versions have done. Unfair situations such as this is what caused the British versions to disappear. This basically shows that Shandi does know the correct answer. Shandi’s a terrific person and terrific host, but can you honestly tell me that she thought of the right answer on her own? Again, I’m not saying that the producers told her to say the right answer was incorrect, but she let it slip and they needed to end the game quickly instead of continuing to take money from viewers and then ditching the puzzle because “no one guessed it in enough time”.

Wow… I would have just ended that game (and admitted I goofed up) and find an equally hard puzzle and just carry over the cash to the next round. They got to be extremely careful on that.
First Optimistic has the bankruptcy chips hit their fan, now this. I guess they were desperate for some more money to hopefully set themselves afloat. Even if that were true, the situation was still handled in an irresponsible way.
Although, afterwards, they carried over the $2,500 to the next game, which was a category game, and it was immediately won. I guess the producers thought “OK, we goofed, why not give the $2500 to them after we f***ed up.”
They were going to have time for another game regardless, according to what time it was done. They were going to give more money away on that next game. Therefore, they saved money.
And if they did that, they need to state it. Regardless of what they did after, they publicly stated that the right answer is wrong, made a passing reference to it for like 5 seconds (that of which didn’t state what happened), and still took more money from callers for at least 5 minutes (closer to 10) after saying the right answer is wrong. They ended up making more money off the situation and saving money by not having to shell out more money on the next game.
I’d be interested to see if anyone at GSN responds to this… I checked the GSN message boards to see if anything official turned up there. Nothing did.
One message-board poster named “Playmaniamaniac” summed it up well, I think… “IMO, nothing is rigged or ‘fixed.’ GSN is just a very poorly run network, and Quiznation is a mess right now.”
You have to wonder how much longer GSN will let Quiznation lurch along…
This is NOT the first time it happend on GSN!! Why are you people getting worked up over it??? BIG DEAL! It’s NOTHING!
I said it in another post, but this somewhat confirms it…
Things at Playmania are begining to unravel as the new leader of GSN takes over, the question as to its survival may have just been answered…
I hope I am wrong
I only watched Playmania twice…both times while suffering from a major virus in mid April…and the only reason it was on was because I was up at night throwing up and/or on the can. No truth to the rumor that Playmania contributed to my health condition but when I did watch the show I really didn’t care for it that much. It’s just a cheap way to waste two hours of airtime…much like their constant ability to run Dog Eat Dog into the ground so much that one has to wonder if Michael Vick is sponsoring the show?
Maybe this is just me, but this minor slip-up seems like nothing…so she said that it wasn’t “X”, corrected herself, and moved on. Should the game have stopped? Probably. Is it worth crucifying the show over this incident? Hardly.
From what I gather, the crucification of PlayMania is due to a variety of factors–the game mentioned in this thread, the ridiculously slow pace of the show, 100 Winners going on hiatus, etc. Don’t blame the change in management at GSN for PlayMania’s demise. The problems were around when Rich Cronin was around.
The one thing I can’t complain about is their prizes. When I won, I was told the money would arrive in 6 to 8 weeks. I got the money in exactly 2 weeks and the check cleared. What’s not to love? :-D
Let’s face it, GSN is willing to yield to Take the Cake, or at least go down to that level.
And yes, I do blame Shandi. IMO she’s becom
As I was saying, Shandi’s become quite the little snob since DWTS. There’s a rumor (can’t confirm it) that Angelle will be taking her spot on Lingo, IF it’s renewed
Trust me, you can rest assured we won’t see this show in the fall lineup
RIP GSN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
quiznation really needs to get repaired, badly. After mid-July, things are going down hill from there. What was happening? Was this all Cronin’s plan? I hate the idea of giving ridiculous amount of money then slow the game down, nicknamed “zombie mode,” were the only way of excitement is to get involved. I live in Canada, I cannot get involved because of the rules. I used to be entertained for watching quiznation and 100 winners after the major July changes. Should I send them a letter? I really don’t know, but would that even matter?
Basically, all of Playmania needs to be repaired. I’m not suggesting to “go back in time” to it’s old format and have Mel Peachy back; get real people! It just needs to be entertaining to watch again without having to get involved.
In the meantime, I just won’t watch it. Sorry GSN.
I almost wouldn’t mind Angelle on Lingo if that rumour’s true. She seems like a nice girl, I like her.
Come September, acoording to Mr. Beverly’s site, the “Quiznation” moniker vill disappear altogether, and GSN will go back to calling it “Playmania.”
Dang…I was going to comment on the exact same thing Lee posted already. As for the ’scandal’, if the game was rigged, why was the correct answer ‘SNARL’, when Shandi clearly said it wasn’t ‘SCALE’? I don’t see anything wrong with the clip, except that it took nearly the entire show.
If I was the head of GSN, I would hire the Sullivan Group (Standards & Practices for all game shows) to oversee the game material, establish a time limit for each game, and carry over any unclaimed pots to later games. Some games, such as Crossword, Playmania 5, Top 5, and Word Slam take way too long.
I watch the show, usually for the first hour, but only to have something on TV while going online.
