Posted by Alex Davis as CBS, The Price is Right
We have a new Price is Right situation, and this one doesn’t involve Bob Barker groping anyone! A The Price is Right winner from 2004 claims that instead of a new car, she ended up receiving a rehabilitated wrecked one that had received major damage to the frame. Took her long enough to speak up, didn’t it?
Contestant Donna Tillman, suing the show, said she won a 2004 Pontiac GTO on June 28, 2004. After she paid tax and licensing fees, she was informed that the car had mechanical problems which caused an eight week waiting period to receive it. When she received it, it was different than the displayed one and had more miles than she was informed of. When she took it for a service, Tillman was told of the problems. Pontiac and a spokesperson for Price declined to comment.
I can understand her frustration, but is this really the fault of the show? Seems more like the dealership to me.

Shouldn’t she tooken care of that in 2004?
She probably drove the hell out of that car and wants a new one

I’m fairly certain that it’s not CBS’s problem, but instead the dealership’s fault. A woman from my hometown went on the show and won a showcase with a car in it. If I recall correctly, she didn’t win a car on the spot, but rather a “gift certificate” (for lack of a better term) for a car, or the value of the car, or something like that. She then took said gift certificate to a dealership where she received the car.
What the above situation sounds like… Whatever dealership she went to, it doesn’t sound very reputable. The dealership claimed to have the car, but didn’t, so they did whatever it took to get the car in, no matter what condition, and in the end, the woman got a lemon. Of course, I’m totally speculating, so don’t quote me on any of that.

Well as far has having a different car, the show can do that that as long as it is of equivalent or greater value than announced. But she’s not reporting this until now, that sounds suspicious and I’m really wondering about the statue of limitations here.

Didn’t you read the top of the article - Barker wasn’t sued (or ‘bashed’), the show was by the contestant! However, 12-15 is a day for Barker bashing, as that was on that day in 2000 that models Janice Pennington and Kathleen Bradley were no longer featured on the show due to testifying in former model Holly Hallstrom’s case against Barker (and if you dis the Barker, you get retribution for it), and this was retribution of the worst kind, as we never got a chance for them to tell us goodbye. Barker sure as hell ‘milked it for all it was worth’ when HE left the show this earlier this year! Now THAT is ‘Barker bashing’ that is well deserved!

I won’t disclose at this time my inside track to this situation; however, the information in this article is not entirely factual. First of all, there was no delay due to mechanical problems with her car - none what so ever. Second, the reason Donna’s car was in for “mechanical repair” was SHE was in a car accident. The body shop wrote a letter saying “possible” damage prior to that accident, not prior to her having taken delivery. So far, her, her lawyer or anyone else has presented no evidence of the dealer or transporter having damaged or having knowledge. Third, the “dealership” that said there was prior repair is a body shop nobody has heard of.
Don’t always just fault a car dealership because it is easy to just jump on the bandwagon. I know those guys have a bad rep but that dealer in Pasadena is a family owned small dealer with a good reputation and nice people to do business with.

I just can’t figure out the connection between her car not working and it being Price is Right’s fault. It would be the dealer or manufacturer’s fault at the very least. Unless, of course, she accepted a lemon.
That’s like winning a car at the church raffle and having in break down 2 years later and suing the church for the car repairs. That’s just stupid.

Supermatch: THERE WAS NO BARKER-BASHING. Gawd.
Anyhoo, Alex is right; the blame should lie with the dealership, not TPIR.

I blame the plantiff. You file the suit 3 years after your win. Why don’t you get a cup of McDonald’s hot coffee, pour it in your lap and sue McDonad’s for millions. Wait, that already happened.
