“Price is Right” Check Out Perfection

We were sent a pretty cool clip of Price is Right from the Fourth of July. Check it out.

And while we’re here let’s clear some things up over the apparent massive hysteria of the Fourth of July weekend. What we know will happen is the show will be in HD next season, a new pricing game will be coming, and a video wall will appear eventually. All the other changes that were stated were speculations, rumors, and mumblings at that moment.

Everything about the new season that has been confirmed I expected except for the video wall. I really hope they don’t change the set that much.

  • Marc Power says:

personally, I wouldn’t mind a set change, soemthing like a corss between retro and modern era, I said it before on another topic but the displays with the mechanical things and the pull cards, really make the show look dated. to be honest, I think they should have done that all this year, since new hsot means new era.

as for the clip, too bad that wasn’t on a $1M spectacular, cause that probably would have made for a good way to win the $1M, hit the total on the nose.

  • KBGUY09 says:

At the end there, I think Drew thought he was the contestant. He had his hands up in the air and was very excited for the winner. If their set changes/new pricing games/etc. decisions are as good as their host decisions, we won’t have a problem, IMO.

  • Doug Morris says:

Well, the HD *had* to come next season. Analog transmissions stop early next year. We were due for a new game since no new game debuted in Season 36. Video wall — eh — let me withhold comment ’til I actually see it.

  • Tim says:

HD doesn’t necessarily have to come, ever; “digital” does not necessarily mean “HD.” Plenty of digital stations are on the air now and never have any HD content. But I’m all for TPIR going HD all the time, not just for the MDS shows.

As the old saying goes “If it aint broke, dont fix it”. Having said that, its not completely the end of the world if they added some more 21st Century touches.

And when you think of it if the show is moving off course considerably, and i dont think that CBS will let that occur, the biggest critic will come from none other than Bob Barker himself.

Besides, TPIR is CBS’s flagship Daytime program. Its been on the air for almost 40 years. Fremantle has had a winning streak with Million Dollar Password and with Celebrity Family Feud. Who knows?

September will be a great month for us game show lovers. A lot of stuff is coming out this year.

All I can say is….IT’S ABOUT TIME. It’s about time they add a new pricing game (does anyone know exactly how long it’s been since they introduced a new pricing game?). It’s about time TPIR went HD. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy have been in HD for 3 years, so what took The Price Is Right so long? In any case, I’m looking forward to September when not only my birthday will come around (it’s the 18th, BTW), but when all the new game shows begin.

“And she’s from Canada! And she’s right on the nose!”

The second exacta ever in Check-Out.

  • Todd says:

    Actually, it’s the third.

  • dropzone5 says:

devares, More or Less was the last game to debut, and that was during the 35th season (2/17/07, according to gscentral.net).

The show has already gone through enough change as it is. Do we really need to change anything more? Why don’t we give it another year or so before changing a bunch of stuff?

  • Adam says:

Well there was a deal in place that TPIR would remain the same one year after Barker’s retirement. That year ended last week.

  • Alex says:

Nice to see the show’s permanently moving to HD.

Do you know what the show will be like with a video wall? Will it be like the Doug Davidson version? Or will the wall appear somewhere else? Or will it be like the Price is Right fanfiction I occasionally do, where the walls of the Turntable are replaced with video screens, but the Turntable itself still remains?

I really don’t see what the problem is with a video wall on TPIR. Jeopardy! has been using video screens since Alex Trebek began hosting. In 1984!!! And while it looked awkward when Wheel of Fortune first tried video screens in 1996, the advent of the digital puzzle board, a video wall behind the contestants, and a neon set helped it all fit in nicely. I think the time has finally come for The Price is Right to go modern and quit being stuck in the past.

    That’s amazing! Great clip!
