We finally have a brief look into the rules of GSN’s new original game show, Bingo America. This was taken from GSN’s press page and from an audience member who wished to remain anonymous.
It looks to be entirely different than ABC’s National Bingo Night which is a good thing. We have a legitimate game now. Mix that with the huge bingo hopper and I’m all smiles. Essentially, a ball comes out and at-home players mark it off their cards. In-studio players answer a question. If they are right, the ball’s dollar value is placed into the round’s bank and the player is given the letter on the ball. First to spell B-I-N-G-O wins the round. First player to win two rounds wins the game, the bank, and plays the Bingo Bonus Board for $100,000. No idea how the dollar values for the balls work yet, though. Logic would tell me the number on the ball becomes the dollar total, but I’ve seen pictures with a bank over $1,000. That would take quite a bit of time, wouldn’t it?
The winner faces the Bingo Bonus Board. The board is shown in this post. Basically, a player just picks a number off the board, with the corresponding letter obviously. There are prizes from $500 to trips to $100,000 on it. The winner keeps picking until they get a matching pair. Whatever is matched first is what you take home. Yeah, it’s very hard to win, but at least it’s remotely possible. It’s not as impossible as, say, Deal or No Deal’s big money Hershey Kiss game. When at-home players print off cards, they have bonus numbers at the bottom. If their bonus number matches what a player selects, the at-home player gets a separate cash prize.
It looks to be interesting at least. It’s no Grand Slam (where’s the renewal on that anyway?), but it’s something interesting. They transformed a lousy ABC game show into a pretty decent game with a big money end game. I’d just wish the end game was a little more bingo oriented. To switch to a matching game out of no where is a bit silly to me. What do you think of the rules? Remember, just reading them is going to be different than watching, so be sure to check it out on March 31st at 7:00PM ET on GSN. A new season of Lingo would really complement the hour block well.

Yes, I could see this being promoted as the “Lingo - Bingo Power Hour!” or something like that. And I agree, Alex, generally the best bonus round games follow directly from the main game. In my opinion, Wheel, Password Plus, and Blockbusters have/had the right idea - Tic Tac Dough and Chain Reaction (although ‘Go’ works well on its own) seemed to be thrown in for lack of a better idea.

The bank gets as high as it does because they start you off with a base sum - a “gift” from Patrick ;)

It looks enjoyable at least; I just hope that the Pacific time zone will be allowed to join in on the fun in one way or another without relying on my cable company (Cox) to offer a east-coast feed of GSN, which I don’t think it will do anytime soon…

You know, based on the concept, either there’s a lot of filler if someone wins 2-0, or we might see….wait for it…. games straddled over two shows!
I was thinking it was X dollars times the number on the ball added to the bank myself…

I like the front game. It’s a good combination of skill and luck and there’s just enough incentive to answer “dead draw” questions. I wonder if the 3rd game of a match is modified to go quicker a la Card Sharks.
I don’t mind the bonus round that much because it’s a straight-up reward round. Now, common sense would say that it’s very unlikely that there are 37 different prizes on the board. Maybe 10-20 is the real number with varying frequencies.

maybe there are some “bonus balls” in the drum that add to the bank like say 450 there, $100 there,
I guess the bonus game is basically the winner’s baord from sale of the century with more numbers, on $oc a double win as been done before at least once so it can certainly happen here. unless there’s a frequency like Joe Mello said by my math the odds of getting the $100K are 5,550 to 1 which really isn’t terrible that’s better than the lottery.

A good breakdown might be something like this…
4- $100K
6- $50K
7- CAR (or $25K)
10- $10K
12- $5K
12- TRIP
12- $1000
12- $500
So the game wold go at least 2, but no more than 9 picks….but there’s a better than a 1 in 5,550 shot to win the $100K with this setup- I suspect that they want a reasonable chance that someone wins the top prize in this set of 40 shows (Russian Roulette had one in each of its two seasons)…
