Just when I thought DOND couldn’t arrive with a more tasteless venue. Bad enough middle class Americans with a brain aren’t permitted on the show, or middle aged persons whom are thought of as wasted talents when there are so many deserving twenty year olds to choose from – now, there is the Prez of the U.S., who also disdains middle class Americans and the middle aged, to consign his time to DOND for publicity sake for whom? Too bad I missed the show. One less program to aggravate me. Hate mail accepted. Funny mail welcomed. Mail in agreement – just keep them coming.

I think it was a really bad idea to put Bush on DOND. First of all, he’s got really low approval ratings so most people don’t like him. If you are looking for high ratings, why would you put someone on there that most people do not care for? It doesn’t make sense to me. Whoever came up with that great idea on that show got exactly what they deserved – crappy ratings.

First of all, it’s too bad so many of you weren’t around when Richard Nixon (while running for Prez in ’68) appeared on “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In” (a very, very popular show of its day; topical comedy was among its strong suits), and withoput blinking, looked staright into the camera, and as stone-faced as he could get, said, “sock it to me!” – a catchprase of both the show, and the era.

Jimmy Carter, a virtual unknown to nearly the rest of the country, was a contestant on the ’70s version of WHAT’S MY LINE? His line? Governor of Georgia!

As for Dubya appearing on DOND…I think I’ve finally found a reason to watch COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN instead.

Bush, the “Boy Wonder” may be a lame duck, but he’s never going to be exempt from being lit into, for what he’s done while in office. But, don’t take my word for it; history will (likely as not) see to that!

But, what’s really sad, is Howie (a Canadian), was sucking up to that war hero as if HE were from Podunk, USA. And the poor guy could only take the show for what, $70,000-plus? (he deserved at least TRIPLE that!)

Actually, I don’t recall seeing any ads for Deal or No Deal this week–so I don’t know how much (if any) they pimped this.

But, yeah, I don’t think it’s the best strategy for pumping up ratings. However, it doesn’t surprise me that he’d make a “taped” appearance, as he stopped talking to anything but hand-picked “friendly” audiences a couple of years ago.

And, as it turns out, the contestant didn’t too well–he only got about $26K, and would have squandered it if his friends hadn’t stopped him.

Without “bashing,” I still wonder a bit at NBC’s extra publicity at Bush’s appearance. Last I was told, he was wildly unpopular.

But, as has been said, perhaps the “coolness” of having the POTUS appear is itself a draw….

So, I just got back from a vacation (actually, the one I won on Merv Griffin’s Crosswords!) and I met a nice British family on a shuttle into St. John’s, Antigua. They were going on and on about how much they loved the US DoND compared to theirs, as we have all the flashy lights, more money, models, and so forth. I couldn’t believe this! I think there’s a serious case of greener-grass-itis going on here.

Well, Alex…you’re wrong and your comments about Bush are quite ridiculous…but hey, it’s your blog, you get to say what you want, right? After all you DO have freedom of speech in this country…ha ha ha ha…

Anyways, looking forward to Mr. President Bush on DoND. it’s great he’s taking time out of schedule to have some fun and supporting a contestant’s efforts. I’ll be watching and looking forward to his appearance…AND…for demos and libs to get P-O’d about this whole thing… 8-)

Like him or not, you still have to admit, having THE PRESIDENT of the United States on Deal or No Deal is very cool. I don’t remember Bill Clinton showing up on a Game Show, nor Bush Senior.

So this could be considered another event in Politics on Game Shows.

The Banker needs to make some tough offers.

First off, to Mark, yes I can speak for myself far beyond bashing Bush so I really didn’t care for that assessment at all.

And honestly, as long as it has some remote connection to game shows, I’ll write about what I want. It’s a blog. I fully wrote this knowing I was going to get back lash and hell from people, and I’m fine with that. It makes for fun conversations. Sometimes getting a bit deeper into topics than minutiae such as which Family Feud host had the best music cues is nice and good. Plus it happens so rarely who gives that big of a shit.

As someone who has ripped on Buzzer for going off-topic in the past, I have to stand behind Mike. It’s not like we’re going all political on a news post about The Price is Right or something. This topic screams politics, which makes it fair game for discussion here. Just in the same way that we can discuss our personal feelings about Drew Carey or Mike Greenberg in appropriate news posts, I think it is absolutely relevant to discuss personal feelings about George Bush in a news item that links him to a game show.

Why is this any different than Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama appearing on David Letterman?

Or Mrs. McCain appearing on the “View” on Monday ?

They are major politicians and are trying to get votes for their “party”, and their is more than ONE party.

This is NOT “political” Buzzer-Blog, and if you want to whine and moan about one specific party, please do so elsewhere….

How is this any different from Celine Dion making an appearance? Just another “let’s trot out the celebrity” show in the 3-ring Circus Tent that is Deal or No Deal.
