President Bush’s “Deal” Appearance Brings Lowest Monday Rating Ever

Being the dirty dirty liberal that I am, I got a large chuckle out of this. As you may know, President Bush appeared on Deal or No Deal on Monday’s show, wishing a contestant luck. The contestant only wound up (prior to the Deal Wheel) with $26,000 so that’s some luck there. But that’s not the fun part. The fun part is Bush’s appearance fell in the show that had the lowest Monday rating in the history of the program. Yeah, the show’s been down this season a bit, but Monday’s show was down 27% from its prior season average. Pretty staggering. Of course we can’t come right out and say that people are so repulsed by Bush that they turned it off. It’s a fun thought in my mind, but we can’t really say. the way the ratings are going I wouldn’t be surprised if deal or no deal next season will be the last in primetime. Although It’s still one of NBC highest ratings so you never know. I peronsally think that having too many two hour episodes could kill this also maybe. Next fall is the syndicated version so Deal will be on 7 times in a week. If you count the 5 a week in syndicated and Wed and Fri on NBC next fall. I personally wish there were 22 models in the syndicated version. I also think that if NBC wants to put Deal on friday at 9/8 central then they should put 1 VS 100 before that at 8/7 central. The ratings of this wouldn’t surprise me though because a lot of people are not fans of George Bush including me. Hopefully though his apparance wouldn’t make this show jump the shark.

What’s with all the “Deal” hating? I wouldn’t say the show would fall because of our President of the United States!1 Please give “Deal” a second chance, I mean it will do fine in the daytime as well in primetime, like “Match Game”, “Wheel Of Fortune”, and “Family Feud” did in their day! Everything deserves a second chance! :)

According to Zap2it, the Bush episdoe of Deal got 5.9/9. The previous Monday’s Deal drew 5.6/9, again according to Zap2it. The problem with Monday’s Deal is Dancing With the Stars, not George Bush.

lol, that’s the first time I’ve seen it, and Bush is so fake, that whole thing is clearly written for him and when he tells a joke it bombs (Laura would have made it work).

Deal is down IMO because they’ve gotten too gimmicky, albeit the deal wheel is kinda neat and I love the idea of the world tour but things like next week’s: Star Wars show (yes they really are doing a star wars themed show next week for those who didn’t know), the million dollar mission and this thing they’re doing lately with the banker trying to psych contestants out by putting them face to face with their fears (dogs this week, a squirrel a few weeks ago) just made everything too corny.

Of course I don’t think the problem is Bush on the show, I’m not that stupid and anyone who would think that clearly has issues. That’s why I clearly did not say that he brought the lowest Monday ratings. I said he fell on the show that did.

And I don’t think you should hate Bush if you don’t want to. I’m not like that. I’m just having some fun for myself.

Deal or No Deal has gone too much into Queen for a Day territory, IMHO. The game itself was never that strong (at its core, it’s not that much better than that God-awful light-stick show on ABC), so they dress it up with more manufactured ‘drama’ than Jerry Springer. If it’s not a tear-jerker sob story worthy of Extreme Makeover Home Edition, it’s some goofy bit with the so-called banker, or it’s a hyped up “mission.”

Keep in mind, these comments come from someone who watched and enjoyed the show initially, so I’m not a “Deal hater” from day one….and I’ll still DVR each episode just to see models 3, 10 and 26 strut in. :-)

It’s just that the show more and more feels like a spoof of itself done by Saturday Night Live…except there’s no spoof, this is really what they’re putting out there.

Alex’s remarks about Bush are unpaid political advertising that can and should be ignored. An Alex hero like Obama could appear on the show and not move the needle much if at all, as long as Dancing With the Stars was appearing opposite. The real point is that the weakness of Deal on Monday proves that the show can now be counter-programmed very successfully. A show like Dancing With the Stars, which attracts the older-skewing audience Deal pulls, is a very effective weapon.

All that said, Deal still generally ranks second in its Monday timeslot, as it did with the Bush episode. Rumors of the show’s death are greatly exagerrated. Do I think Deal is on the downslide in prime time? Sure, but I think a couple more seasons are likely before the show tumbles so far that it shuffles off to syndie-land. Which would be a very respectable prime time run for any show, and even more for a game show in the post-1960s era.

Interesting, Casey, that you deem Alex’s comment as “unpaid political advertising”. He was merely tying together the ratings of the show to Bush’s approval rating. I was able to see the comment for what it was, not as a VOTE DEMOCRAT OR DIE! sort of thing.

Deal or No Deal is no longer new, and whatever the next new thing is, that will take Deal’s place. That’s all.

And I was tying it in jest as well. Again, obviously I don’t think the president caused ratings to go down and only an extremely simple minded person would think that.

And to Casey, please do not put words in my mouth. I never advertised for any candidate nor do I plan to. I never said conservatives are this and that, and I don’t plan on it. I made fun of the president, big damn deal, Casey. Not once did I advertise Obama, Hillary, or McCain (who I respect greatly) and, again, nor do I plan to. I’ll save that for my MySpace. I can start advertising politically and show you what it’s really like if you’d like me too.

I say to hell with anything when you can get a special acknowledgment from the president himself. I mean I did back in 8th grade from Bill Clinton when I got an award for academic excellence. I was speechless too.

Typical modern angry liberals…the President of the United States takes a few moments and sincerely thanks one of America’s finest, and he gets nothing but crap about it from angry liberals (but, then again, is there any other kind anymore?). If you asked the contestant, other than his family, that moment was the highlight of his life. You could tell that those three minutes were among the best in his life. Whoa re you to crap on it?

I agree with Devon. I think Bill Clinton to be pure eveil in every fashion of the word, but when I got a special award from the White House for job performance, I was thrilled, and it hangs in my home to this day.

Eh, even though I’m no fan of Bush I still think it was more lame manufactured drama that Deal does. I still watch the show, although my fast forward button gets a huge workout. I can watch an hour show in probably 15 - 20 minutes.

And to DJ, althought I really don’t want this site to be more commentary than actual news, so-called “liberals” are angry because this country is in the toilet. Everyone in this country, regardless of party affiliation should be working to get this country back on track - America needs to get it together.

Why am I not surprised that it got low ratings? Of course it got that, because it is George Dubya. Anyway, I’ll bet that if this person ended up going with the case that had one penny in it, they would get to go hunting with Cheney as a bonus, lol. This show is definitely in overkill. I’m still pondering whether I should watch the episode this coming Monday, when there will be a “Star Wars” theme to the game.

I’m in Alex’s corner on this one! Granted, there’s a lot of coincidence, here; not to mention a lot of “guilt by association,” too.

But, to all who read this, who voted for Dubya not once, but TWICE (could it be the “he’s the kinda guy you’d wanna have a beer” with? Or, “compassionate conservatism” (whatever the f*** THAT is- ah, I know what it is…it’s an OXYMORON), now will you listen to the OTHER half of the country, comprised of people who, on account of that illerate moron who has been living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue (at taxpayer’s cost), have had their lives ruined, if not by the unnecessary death of a son, daughter, wife, husband, father…WHATEVER because of a fool’s decision to propagandize a war that should’ve never happened; then by the “fuzzy math” the dips***t blabbered on and on about, prior to the 2000 election, which led to economic policies that have led to massive losses of jobs, homes, shall I go on, or have I made my point? Le’me put it in the form of a bumper sticker-type slogan I’d love to see (the Democrats use)

“AMERICA, HAVEN’T YOU HAD ENOUGH…?”

But, I’d be remissed if I didn’t get to the REAL point: like it or not, DOND has “jumped the shark!”
