Thanks to reader Troy Diggs for this story. On Thursday night, the poor hosts of “Play2Win”, another “Playmania” ripoff, were making a big deal over the fact that the show is no longer on nationally. It still airs on WPIX in New York, but unless there are some other stations we’re not aware of, that’s about it. Supposedly, on Thursday night, they upped the money a bit but only did three puzzles. I’m sure you can imagine the huge amount of stalling they did then.

I actually managed to catch this last week Thursday night and it was part-way through one puzzle where people had to unscramble letters in a puzzle (answer was OCTOPUS, by the way).
LITERALLY every 30 seconds (maybe less) they would talk about their little “bonus round” for $1,500 (and stupid celebratory music was played). Then they upped it to $3,000 in honor of their “not going to be nationwide anymore” show.
I’d definitely rather watch PlayMania over this.

I’m glad. I’ve never watched this, but Playmania is such a genius show(and by genius I mean an awesome time waster at 1 in the morning) and I want to see the original succeed.
Now if we could only get rid of Midnight Money Madness or whatever. Wait, is that even still on?

I thought I’ve seen ads for Play2Win on WGN Superstation over the past 2 weeks. Maybe its not on that anymore though.
That seems “national” to me (most - 75-80%- of basic cable systems get Superstation WGN).

I think the reason the show went from National to local feed is due to pressure from the FCC. WPIX is a broadcast network and probably someone called the FCC to claim rigged-ness. Wouldn’t suprise me if MyGames Fever is next to be “axed”.

Speaking of MyGames Fever, I did the research and found out what “Black Bamboo” is…..

Here in Canada, CityTV runs a Playmania-like show also called Play2Win. The highest cash prize that I’ve seen on that show was $2,500 CDN, which can also be won in a special bonus round. Usually, people who call in that show never end up winning the $2,500 anyway, and instead end up with $50, $225, $250, and even $500. I’m wondering if this version has anything at all to do with the version that was mentioned in this post, since both shows share the exact same name.

FYI, the show apparently airs now only in New York — they ended the show by saying so.
I managed to get the last 40 minutes on the DVR — it was so embarassing and anticlimactic. The worst part of it all — yes, the puzzles were worth more, but they only did 3 during the night (when they normally do 5). In other words, they didn’t stretch out the (minimal) prize budget any; they just stalled for much… much… much longer.
I may have to YouTube some clips from that.

My Games Fever sucks as well. Every six seconds the host was explaining how to text message with a big model phone. Any dumbass knows how to text message.
