NBC is gearing up for the debut of their new quiz show Who’s Still Standing? on Monday, December 19th, at 8:00PM ET.  It’ll run through Thursday that week at that time before settling into a Monday at 8:00PM ET time slot on December 26th.  The show pits one person, the Hero, against ten strangers in a series of against-the-clock one-on-one trivia competitions.  The loser falls through a hole in the floor.  If the Hero can beat all ten people that person will win $1,000,000.

The regular viewer won’t spot it most likely, but of course all of us see the incredible similarity between this and GSN’s extremely before its time original Russian Roulette, which is still the best thing that network has ever done.  This is as close to a revival as we’ll get, and it’s really pretty similar to a head-to-head version of their end game, so if you’re a fan of the old show I see no reason to not be excited to see this one.  Not to mention the fact that we don’t get coherent quiz shows much anymore (we’re looking at you, You Deserve It), so this could be a nice holiday treat for game show fans.  NBC supplied us with some stills of the show.

We only left one out, which shows one of the Heroes falling which spoils that game.  Click here for that, though, if you want to be spoiled.  It’s the best picture of a drop, but it does give away a game.

What do you think?  Looking forward to the show?  I know I am.

Still say Russian Roulette is a better concept for the gimmick but I like the idea and will watch at least ep 1

Looks promising, and Thank God They Lost The Costumes!
(No word on intermediate money, though? We know it’s $1 Million for the Ultimate Hero, but what can they get in the meantime?)

  • Eric says:

    Umm… They’re all costumes… And don’t worry, you’ll see some fun ones.

Each person the hero faces is worth a varied amount of money. That number varies, but the total in front of all the 10 challengers is about $100K. So expect contestant to win between $1K and $25K for each face-off win. Of course, they can’t drop themselves, or they lose everything.

Yes, we are looking at you, You Deserve It – one of the most boring game shows of all time.

Who’s Still Standing? is easily the most anticipated new game show of the Christmas season. Better than It’s Worth What?, more exciting than Minute to Win It, yet just as tension-building as 1 VS 100.

I hope this gets good ratings. I cannot stand to see NBC remain the cellar dweller and wish I knew where at NBC to request a revival of either the RIch List or the Million Dollar Money Drop. Screw TV Critics.

  • Scott says:

They should have retained the original title “Still Standing”.

    • Scott says:

My guess is that NBC phrased the title of this game show in the form of a question to see if it could garner more viewership that way. Think about it like this. Who Wants to be a Millionaire? is a question, yet it was successful for ABC. Therefore, NBC is experimenting with game shows that have titles with questions in them. It’s Worth What? Who’s Still Standing? Of course, It’s Worth What was pretty dry, but this game show is a quiz show, somewhat falling into the Who Wants to be a Millionaire category of game shows.

There was a fairly recent CBS sitcom called “Still Standing” that is currently “still syndicated.” Perhaps the retitling was to avoid confusion.

Is this truly an event, or are they burning this one off?
