Weekend Replay: Would You Swap Your Box on “Deal or No Deal” Thumbnail

Weekend Replay: Would You Swap Your Box on “Deal or No Deal”

This past week on Deal or No Deal was the Banker's Birthday.  Last year Suzanne had the dream finish and won the £250,000 top prize during a cowboys and Indians week.  This week it's doctors and nurses.  Contestants get the chance to play for a trip and, if they elect to gamble, to go one box at a time towards the end.  However, the Banker can look inside the contestant's box if they fail.  We'll skip that part since it doesn't meet the tension of the end.  The contestant lost the challenge and the Banker has looked into the box.  The title gives it away a little, but would you swap your box at the end of your game? What if you got the chance to swap it back. How much can the Banker get into your head. Trust me, you do not want to miss this ending. It's an episode of Deal fans will never forget. Click here to check out the moment.

A Look at Challenge TV’s “Take It or Leave It” Thumbnail

A Look at Challenge TV’s “Take It or Leave It”

This Monday sees the debut of Challenge TV's first original game show since 2008, the cult classic Blockbusters.  I thought it may be interesting for both our UK readers, plus Americans who don't know much about Challenge, to look back at some previous Challenge originals.  I wanted to start with what is arguably their high point in original production: Take It or Leave It.  Cross some fairly tricky 50/50 trivia questions with the luck of Deal or No Deal and you'd get this show which ran from 2006 to 2008.  Click here to learn more and to see pictures and a video of the show.

ABC Renews “Shark Tank” for a Full Fourth Season Thumbnail

ABC Renews “Shark Tank” for a Full Fourth Season

Good news for the world of unscripted television today.  ABC has renewed what is arguably the best and smartest reality show on TV today, Shark Tank, for a fourth season.  The network has ordered a full season of 22 episodes for the 2012 television season.  Shark Tank has been the "little show that could".  It started pretty meager in the viewing department and got a few renewals for its low cost, but it's built a steady audience despite some irregular scheduling patterns by ABC.  I've been a fan since day one and I'm very happy to see it keep going.  It's nice to see a low key, mellow, smart reality show can survive.  I had my fears and I'm glad I was wrong.  Click here to let us know what you think of the show and its renewal.

Jamie Kennedy to Host The CW’s “Oh Sit!”

The CW has announced that Jamie Kennedy will be the host of their new stunt-based game show Oh Sit!.  Jamie will host the show from the skybox with co-host Jessi Cruikshank.  Another host, Tanika Ray, will be hosting from the track.  Oh Sit! is best described as its original title: Extreme Musical Chairs.  Combine the classic game of musical chairs with Wipeout and you get this.  A live band will be on each show as contestants try to run, duck, dodge, and jump through various challenges and stunts attempting to get to one of the chairs and progress.  By the end only one contestant will remain and take the bank accumulated through the show.  Click here to read more about the show and let us know what you think of it and Jamie.

“The Million Pound Drop” Wins Rose d’Or Award Thumbnail

“The Million Pound Drop” Wins Rose d’Or Award

Congratulations are due to Channel 4's popular live quiz show The Million Pound Drop.  The Davina McCall-fronted quizzer won the award for best game show at this year's Rose d’Or Festival.  It managed to beat ITV's The Cube and the Israeli format Still Standing which seems to do moderately well in every country except America.  I wonder why.  Congratulations to Endemol and Drop.  It's still a fun, exciting quiz and we're glad to see it do so well.  The show is looking for contestants for its newest series so if you want to take on the Drop and try to win a million pounds, click here.

2012 Daytime Emmy Nominations Announced

Game shows were represented pretty well in the 39th Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations.  There were a few very, very glaring omissions but some shockers in here as well. The usual suspects like Cash Cab and Millionaire were nominated. However, some shockers from cable and network daytime were thrown in as well. There's one very, very large omission, though. Click here to read all the results and let us know what you think.

Australia Brings Back “The Price is Right” to Tepid Reviews Thumbnail

Australia Brings Back “The Price is Right” to Tepid Reviews

Australia's network Seven brought back The Price is Right after a seven year break.  The show, in part, was meant to boost the severely sagging ratings of Deal or No Deal.  From our perspective, it's going to have to a little better to get people more interested in Deal.  Price has an interesting format pattern.  Each country seems to have their own tweaks, twists, and turns to the classic format created by the late Bob Stewart.  France, for instance, has an interesting take on the show.  It's very glitsy, big, over the top, and fun.  It's one of the best international versions out there.  Australia tried to mimic it, but (and I hate to say it) for the most part they sadly failed. Click here to see some of the debut episode and tell us your opinion.

Emily Eichelberger Wins $100,000 on “Wheel of Fortune” Thumbnail

Emily Eichelberger Wins $100,000 on “Wheel of Fortune”

This happened a little earlier this week, so my apologies for not getting to it sooner.  Wheel of Fortune is on a hot streak right now.  The show, after not having a $100,000 winner all season, has given away two of their second biggest prize in three days.  On Monday, April 30th, Emily Eichelberger from Albany, OR took the six figure prize leaving with a grand total of $111,200.  She won the money solving the bonus puzzle "BIRD FOOD" with only the B, R, and D showing.  Interestingly she had the million dollar wedge earlier in the game and lost it.  Click here to see a clip of the big win and let us know what you thought about her play.  I've got a few questions.
