Official: GSN Renews “Newlywed Game”; Carnie Wilson Leaves Show
We posted word from Vulture’s Joe Adalian that The Newlywed Game is supposedly coming back for a fourth season, but without host Carnie Wilson. We can now confirm that today. GSN has officially renewed the hit relationship show for a new season. And as reported, Carnie Wilson will be leaving the show. GSN provided a statement:
“GSN’s hit series “The Newlywed Game” will return for its fourth season this fall with a new host. Carnie Wilson has been a member of the GSN family for the last two years, lending her considerable talents to “The Newlywed Game,” “Carnie Wilson: Unstapled” and “GSN Live.” She will be pursuing other opportunities and we wish her the very best in all her endeavors. We look forward to announcing the new host of “The Newlywed Game” in the near future.”
Again, from what I watched of the show I enjoyed Carnie and she was nothing but nice to me during my time on the set when it was based in New York. Now to see who becomes the new host. I’m sure I could take a pretty clear guess as to who many of you would like, but we’ll see. Our friends at Hollywood Junket yesterday said that former How Much is Enough? host and actor Corbin Bernsen would be good. I could see him doing it.
I just hope that GSN casts a host who matches the (barely-covered raunchy) tone of the show… otherwise all the progress they made over three seasons will sink quickly.
*cough*Eubanks*cough*
10 to 1 odds are Eubanks is in favor of returning. I mean heck if Martindale was able to come back so should Eubanks.
While Eubanks would be cool to see in a full-time role, Bernsen doesn’t sound like a bad idea; he did O.K. with a terrible format on How Much Is Enough, and this is a stronger game. But as has been said, the new host shouldn’t take it over the top.
Oh, and I can’t resist the words “talent” and “Carnie Wilson: Unstapled” in the same sentence!
It would be nice if Corbin Bernsen reprises his role as Arnie Becker in LA Law. Since Arnie Becker was a divorce attorney. But I would love to see Bob Eubanks return.
I sincerely hope they know what they’re doing, and get Bob Eubanks back on. I want to see how Bob would do having this new Newlywed Game under his belt, and possibly a few changes to the format, including changing back to 4 couples instead of 3, and changing the 30-point bone—I mean BONUS question back to a 25-point bonus question.

Bob Eubanks may seem like an obvious choice, and names likes Corbin Bersen and Chuck Woolery have been floated about, but what about Roger Lodge, Mark L. Walberg or Mark DeCarlo? They’ve all hosted dating/relationship shows in the past, so all three of them seem like solid candidates. As long as they don’t choose “Ross The Intern” I look forward to seeing who takes the helm this fall.
And speaking of fall, it looks like David Goldhill’s glorious plan (of ruination for GSN) is starting to fall apart…
Mark DeCarlo? Please! “Studs” sucked BIG TIME! Get the man who made a name out of the show – Bob Eubanks! It fits his personality better than any other show he did!
As a fan of Psych, my only hope is that if Corbin Bernsen got anywhere near The Newlywed Game it wouldn’t conflict with the former.

Eubanks would be great, of course. But I’d be cool with anyone that brought more humor to the show. Carnie was pleasant enough, but didn’t really add much to the show. Bernsen would probably be good, as would Bil Dwyer or George Gray. Really, the show needs a host who can be funny and bring just the right amount of ribbing on the contestants, while still displaying basic hosting chops.

I’m thinking the odds would be a little better than 10-1 on Bob returning, Just becuase he’s guest hosted twice and expressed interest in doing the show when it was announced that Carnie got the job.
and I’m gonna throw another name out there (although this is a huge longshot considering he’s already got a show on the network) Jerry Springer, He’s been doing a great job with Baggage and the humor and “raunchiness” of newlywed game seems perfect for him IMO.
beyond that, I’m sorry to see Carnie go I really liked the way she hosted, she sat back and let the game be the star. Maybe this will lead to a Wilson Phillips comeback. I hope so.

This blog has an extremely HUGE problem with fanb01z who are extremely stuck in the past and whine over really insignificant changes. So, to all of you guys wanting Bob Eubanks to host the show…do you REALLY want him to host the show, or do you just want him there because ZOMG he’s a legend, teh original host!!!1111!!!!111!!!1, and the ONLY one who can host the show (and no one else can)?
I’ve been getting really, REALLY pissed off with the Price is Right fans ON THIS BLOG ALONE, and I really do NOT want that anger to spill over into other game shows!!!
I’m sorry Carly is leaving the show. She actually was the show, I’ll not watch it anymore. Of all people to take her place, I’ m sure they’re are a lot better than sherri. Oh well, Carly should not be leaving, she was great!!!!
We loved watching Carnie Wilson on the Newlywed Game and are VERY disappointed with her replacement who by the way, is very DULL. I watched the full show for the first time with this new hostess and was very disappointed so I have chosen not to watch it any more. There is just no comparison to Carnie and the show just doesn’t have the appeal it had with Carnie on it. Sure wish her the best and will miss the show but they might as well take it off the air as far as I’m concerned.
GSN just ruined the show. I have watched it a couple of times with Sherri as the host and it is definately not as good. Carnie was a much better host. Lost another viewer.
I loved Carnie on the show and miss her a lot. I would like to wish her the BEST in all her endeavors. Take care. :o)
