Norm Macdonald to Host “High Stakes Poker”; Show Goes 3D for Season Seven

GSN’s popular poker show High Stakes Poker is going into a major transformation in its upcoming seventh season.  First of all, the last long time cast member, host Gabe Kaplan, is no longer with the show.  The new host of GSN’s popular cash poker show is the incredibly talented and funny comedian Norm Macdonald.  Kara Scott, who joined the show last season, will return for behind the scenes reporting and more.  The new season begins Saturday, February 26th, at 8:00PM ET and 11:00PM ET.

In addition to comedy and acting, Norm is a talented poker player.  He’s competed in the World Series of Poker and in many celebrity poker tournaments.  Norm was a cast member on Saturday Night Live starting in 1993 where he anchored Weekend Update.  He also starred in two separate sitcoms: Norm and A Minute With Stan Hooper.  He’s currently making the rounds across the country on a stand-up tour.

Not only is High Stakes Poker getting a new host, they are also getting a new dimension.  The poker program will air in 3D for its seventh season on DirecTV’s 3D channel n3D.  High Stakes Poker will be the first poker show to be broadcasted in 3D, and it’s the first GSN show to air this way also.  The 3D shows will begin airing this Spring.  The full cast list for season seven of High Stakes Poker is as follows:

Mike Baxter

No Durr this season? That’s a big loss. No Phil Helmuth or Mike Matusow either?

Norm MacDonald should be interesting. He is quite funny, but it could get stale if he tries to be too clever for an entire hour.

  • Norm says:

This was obviously the choice of someone who knows nothing about poker. This show once catered to poker fans but it jumped the shark a few seasons ago. Norm may like poker, but he can’t give the insight that Gabe did.

  • FeDevil says:

Im gonna miss Hellmuth, Matusow, Durr and of course my favourite poker player Sammy Farha! Where the hell is he? Was so funny!

  • Wayne says:

Gee, thank god for new technology, it will now feel like I can reach out and touch the chips and cards..oooooooooohhhhhhh

Next time I read GSN doesn’t have the money for a better budget on a show, I’ll know where the $ was wasted.

    • Scott says:

Hey Wayne, next time you wonder why 1 VS 100 has become so cheap with the prize ladder and Bob Saget not hosting it, blame it on GSN spending all this money on High Stakes Poker, WHICH IS NOT EVEN A GAME SHOW. -_-

  • Mike says:

No Gabe + No “Full tilt” players = no show.
It is truly pathetic what GSN has done to this show, from the majesty that it once commanded.

  • Randy says:

GSN has mishandled this show ever since Cronin left. Once it was the best poker on television. Now it’s a joke.

  • owen says:

GSN should had kept Gabe (Kotter)Kaplin on the show he is as funny as watching the kings come up in hands

  • Michael says:

    Mike:

I heard Daniel Negreanu on “Prime Time Sports” (Canadian Sports radio talk show) and I believe he said that the Full Tilt players are not allowed to appear on shows that are not sponsored by Full Tilt. I know that they cannot appear on the “Big Game” and I wonder if this one got into that loop.

  • Peter Blankstein says:

What a monster mistake…Gabe Kaplan has forgotten more about poker than Norm will ever know in his lifetime. The guy who let Gabe go must be the bosses younger brother…that’s the only way a dummy like that could get the job. Good luck for this year…you’ll really need it.

it’s becoming a big joke. the best thing about this show was it felt like you were listening in on a big high stakes game. now its commentated by a guy that even tries to make a joke out of Doyle Brunson surviving cancer. seriously GSN what were you thinking. the players of full tilt will surely be missed but it could survive without them but i’m not sure it can survive WITH norm.
