Why not show videos on days with no news? This is from my favorite game show which GSN will hopefully some day get on the air if Sony lets it go: Russian Roulette. It features one of the most amazing and exciting game show wins I’ve ever seen. This is Maria Lay winning $100,000 by playing Russian Roulette with five drop zones. If you know the show at all, if you play with five zones, you’re basically screwed. She’s one of the two I’d really like to see on Grand Slam 2008 (Come on, GSN). Why can’t we get any quality shows like this on anymore?
Let’s pick your brain while we’re at it: Were you a fan of Russian Roulette? If so, what did you like most about it? For me, I really enjoyed that the show had tough trivia, an awesome set, one of the best music packages in ages, and the end game is one of the most exciting I’ve ever seen on television. You can’t tell me your heart doesn’t stop for a moment as the Revolver spins its lights. We’ll get a video of some drops later for you this evening.

When ever this was on I had to watch it. Best GSN show, and best game show on TV in 2003-2004

I agree! This was the best GSN show ever and my personal favorite GSN Original of all time!

Shows nowadays are either too easy, too stupid contestants, too much luck, or all of the above. This had the right amount of question difficulty, contestants, luck, it had great music but not to dramatic, and a great host! It was a great show back then and I wish it was still on the air–or at least reruns!
On a seperate note, does anyone know what’s going on with TQ’s Game Show/Reality Theme Site?

It should come as no surprise that I’m a HUGE fan of Russian Roulette. Solid gameplay, smart contestants (a rarity on some shows these days), AWESOME set, and great host…what could you not love about this show?
And plus…what better way to leave a game show than dropping through a hole? XD

It’s like I said on a youtube clip in response to some idiot who thought this was a terrible show. It’s an intellectual game with knowledge and strategy being important and luck aswell. and the drop zones are almost over dramatized (considering in reality it’s just a 6-10 foot fall) for comedy relief. i remember my mom’s boyfriend’s mother (who was about 80ish when this show was airing) would always bust laughing when people fell down the hole. and Mark even sometimes played it up off the show, i remmebr on lingo (during the GSN hosts ep.) when chuck asks him “where do they go?” Mark answered: “I think they end up on lesser networks” and during the drop heard round the world marathon he said they fall all the way through to hong kong and become contestants on their show (cue clips from Hong Kong).
I compare this bygone era of GSN to the “attitude” era of WWE: for those who dont know the attitude era was when WWE pushed the envelope a little further, took more chances and conincidentally scored high ratings. GSN gambled with a few higher budget shows such as Russian Roulette, Friend or Foe, Wintuition and had some success.
Lastly, i think Maria might do okay on Grand Slam considering she certainly has the ability to think and answer fast, but the questions on grand slam are much harder, that being said she’d certainly do better than Amy Kelly

Well GSN could renew the show if the bucks were smaller (lets say $20,000 or a double or nothing drop $7,500 if they get all ten $250 for every one. Rounds 1. $100 2. $150 3. $200 Grand Prize (Double OR NOTHING RR) $18,500 (Or $20,000

They could do $100,000 now if they wanted to I think. Remember, Bingo America has a shot at $100,000 nightly and is bound to give loads more away than Russian Roulette did on average because of the $50 or so that goes to each home viewer that bingos, which will be a lot.

I’ve always liked the show. I did like the original Killer Questions better, though. One would be multiple choice. One would be true or false. Another would be an anagram. I liked it more than the “one of three misleading answers” round in standard 10 in 60 format. I think the two $100K wins in the first season sent them scrambling for a fix. Mark having to read all the answers must have eaten 8-10 seconds off the clock every time. That’s an extra drop zone, easily.
It paid out nicely for a GSN Original, though. Sure, three people won top prize, but a bunch of people left $12-$13K richer after passing up the final gamble. Not bad for 30 minutes work.
Maria Lay’s win always struck me as strange because it was so kludged together. I wondered what happened to cause such a weird edit.

The one time that I really remember was the time that GSN had the big April Fool’s Day Switcheroo of 2003 and Todd Newton did the duties for Mark L’ Walberg. Funniest Russian Roulette Ever. But besides that, the music, the lights, the tension and that click, click, click, click, BOOM! (I’ve always wanted to make a music video of RR footage to the tune of “click click boom” by Saliva but never got around to doing it) Man I hope that Russian Roulette gets a comeback someday.

Russian Roulette easily had one of the best endgames I’ve ever seen, right up there with Winners’ Circle on Pyramid and the Wonderwall on Winning Lines. I’d love to see RR come back. For that matter, I’d love to see Winning Lines come back, maybe with some fixes to the second round so Americans would understand what’s going on.

Russian Roulette is one of those gameshows that i feel deserves a revival whether on GSN or maybe primetime on say ABC. ABC would be a great place for this as long as it’s not put up against Deal Or American Idol. I would up the top prize to $250,000 to where you can risk $25,000 to go for $250,000 and also I think having returning champs would make this interesting too because then if a player came back on day 2 or 3 then they may be tempted to go for $250,000. If a network wanted to go an hour then you could up it from 4 contestants to eight contestants. A revival or reruns on GSN would be great.

I have to agree with you Alex, RR was a great show. At first, I didn’t care for it, but the more I watched it, the more I enjoyed it.
Not to mention, Walberg did a great job. Since his stint on Paradise Island, I really think he does a great job. I know work it work, but it would be nice to see him back on a show that isn’t on FOX. I just think he need to be given the right opportunity or else a show that is good (like RR) needs to be kept around.

Love the show. 2001-04 was the best years in GSN’s life. Russian Roulette, Whammy, Cram, Friend or Foe, Lingo? Tell me what other network have the greatest original shows? Today’s GSN originals have nothing on the originals back in the day. Kudos to Bob Bodin (I hope I spelled his name right). Oh, and Ryan, it’s Temptation Island, not Paradise Island.

I never had a chance to see the show, as I didn’t have GSN when it aired. But after seeing clips of the show online, I also really want to see the show brought back!

LOS ANGELES (QP) — Inspired by other fan efforts to get canceled shows returned to the air — such as viewers of “The 4400″ mailing hundreds of packages of sunflower seeds to network executives — fans of the game show Russian Roulette have been sending thousands of loaded revolvers to the offices of GSN.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms has been contacted.
