Just adding more fuel to the Lingo cancellation fire, the New York Times is reporting a GSN representative has stated no new episodes of the network’s longest running show will air in 2008. The spokeswoman said that they have six seasons and will continue to rerun those for the time being. Yes, continue to run them until either the episodes get so boring to watch it’s not worth it or until people want to tear their eyes out with a fork, spoon, or any other implement laying around them at the present moment.
This news does come after the network lost the rights to have the online game, so really the only slight trace of Lingo on GSN’s website is the show’s page, and that isn’t that much at this point. The Gurin Company was called but no response was made. So there we have it. Of course this doesn’t necessarily mean cancellation. Wasn’t there a huge gap between seasons three and four, which was right around the rebranding of the network? It just seems like every negative thing that could happen to Lingo that points to a cancellation has happened. We’ll keep you posted.

It just makes me wonder if next year or the future will hold a re-tooled version of Lingo. I would care less if Lingo “was” canceled for how the show was running. I was hoping that it could get serious and produce more episodes and money to players.

I don’t know anything, but the signs seem more and more to me like something happening outside of GSN’s immediate control. That’s a bit different that a “cancellation,” and certainly it wouldn’t be up to GSN to “get serious and produce more episodes” if true. It seems that the answers, if any, would have to come from the folks who own the rights to the show, and it seems they’re not talking.

If this is a hiatus, perhaps it would be retooled without that tool Shandi on the cast. She and her predecessor were such worthless additions.

Okay, I’ve calmed down….
The Lingo situation is unfortunate. Don’t get me wrong, it’s GSN’s most successful original to date, but the repetitiveness of the game, and lack of new wrinkles or incentives (other than the increasing jackpot) made it less watchable. That being said, I hope it still comes back in a retooled format.

that’s a good point propagandhi, Chuck turns 67 in 8 days could retirement be a possibility I wonder? and typically producers don’t want a host that old. but then again, Chuck is a legend and jsut the namesake with your show would be huge. I read on wikipedia that Chuck has played in the WPT hollywood home game before, maybe he’ll pop up on wpt while GSN has it.

small question, if we go on the assumption one person here said that’s its out of GSN’s hands, and more in Gurin’s hand, could it be they are shopping it for syndication for a better payday than GSN, and have a possible 2008 Syndie release on Lingo?

I would love to see Lingo into syndication if it wasn’t on GSN. up the prize to at least $25,000 on the first pull in bonus round and maybe $10,000 after that. I also think that if in syndication you could not only up the bonus round but you could have returning champs and play for dollars instead of points. I would even love to see a DVD or PC Game of Lingo but I doubt that’s likely.

I really Like “LINGO”!!!!! Chuck and Sandy are doing a great job!!!! The only thing that upsets me are the contestants. They don’t seem to understand the meaning of a “Yellow” or “Red” coated letter!!!
However, I look foreward to watching it every day!!!

If I was The Gurin Company, I would shop this in the syndication market. IMHO, it would do well against Wheel and J!. Shame on GSN for not airing new episodes of the last game show from its good years.
