News Flashes for Wednesday, November 30th

We haven’t done one of these in a while.  Relatively slow day to close out November but there are a few smaller things that may interest you.  Here are some news flashes for Wednesday, November 30th.

*ABC’s You Deserve It, for all intents and purposes, is dead most likely.  The second episode of ABC’s charity based quiz show scored a 2.8/4 rating and 4.36 million viewers.  It lost half its audience from the previous week.  I know it didn’t have the lead-in of Dancing With the Stars this time and its lead-in this week, Shrek the Halls, wasn’t as strong at 7.66 million viewers, but it still managed to lose 43% of that audience.  It’s likely it’s dead.

So can producers finally get it that people want to see a good game in an equally good package?  People watch game shows for the game.  If you shove it to the side then what’s the point?  It’s why this is failing.  It’s why stuff like Millionaire and Deal or No Deal succeeded.  It’s why stuff like Million Dollar Mind Game manages to retain its audience week in and week out and, at this point, has a better shot of showing up somewhere else with new episodes.  A decent game destroyed by a not-so-good show.

*Bother’s Bar has a set report from The Exit List, ITV’s newest quiz show.  We’ve covered it a bit ago, and what we reported basically sticks.  A team goes into a series of rooms and answers questions for cash.  Each right answer is added to the list of answers you have to rattle off to leave with what you’ve won.  You can click here to read it.  It doesn’t sound bad, but it sounds like it should be a lot more exciting and fun than it is, which is what we figured.  Looking forward to seeing how it turns out on television, though.  We were skeptical of The Cube based on audience reports and it ended up being great.

*We’ve got some release dates for returning favorites.  Wipeout comes back for another winter series starting Thursday, December 8th, at 8:00PM ET, on ABC. New co-host Vanessa Lachey makes her debut.  Then, in February, ABC brings back Shark Tank for a third season.  The new season debuts Friday, February 3, at 8:00PM ET.

Did we miss something?  Let us know.

Wow. That’s a hilarious ratings drop. Like, so funny that I’m trying not to laugh in class.

I have a feeling we’ll see YDI burned off over the holidays- I’m sure they can stick something in that slot. And wouldn’t it be ironic if they stuck it in MDMG’s slot and it did worse than MDMG?

That’s pretty funny. As far as the drop in ratings goes, I have one phrase that sums it up nicely – “YOU DESERVE IT!” That’s right ABC! You Deserve the low ratings, thinking that this failure of a game show would be more successful than Million Dollar Mind Game!

You Deserve It was destined to fail from the very beginning. You’ve got a good host in Chris Harrison, but this is proof that even a good host cannot turn around a show as bad as this. There’s no excitement in this game show at all. Each round is the same as the last, except with bigger money amounts. One contestant per hour, there’s no risk, no exciting music or sound effects — EPIC FAILURE. You may as well just give $100,000 away to each person who needs the money, instead of creating a silly game show to do it.

Bring back Duel and renew Million Dollar Mind Game!

You deserve it is one of the worst shows I have ever seen. The public loves show about giving and helping the needy-look at the success of Secret Millionaire. But once they make a “contest” out of it-it becomes a joke.
Forget the game show bullshit-I saw the first episode-if they would of just got into the story about the people in need, show their life, their problems, then give them the money-it would be interesting and draw an audience. But the producers have to take a story and add a gimmick or “hook” with the idea of building ratings-and its the gimmick and hook that turns people off and kills the audience.
Maybe the network will kill the show before the 6th episode-instead put on an infomercial for Zumba! It will draw more viewers.

Why not just bring back Queen [King?] For A Day?

Haven’t heard or read anything about this show before now, but it looks interesting enough…

    Thanks “Hot Shot”…very kind words

Those were, indeed, great days at G/T

As for your question, Goodson was huge on mirrors, especially on off-net shows that had our extended crew for an audience. He though that the clutter reflection created a “busy looking set” and a big game feel. It was as simple as that.
    Thanks for writing!!

I want the ratings, ABC dropped an episode of “You deserve it (if you watch this tripe)” in Million Dollar Mind Game’s Sunday afternoon slot this week. Let’s see just how bad it did :)

I just saw about 3 minutes of “You Deserve It”, and couldn’t watch anymore after the woman had about 6 obvious clues for “Denver” and still couldn’t get it.
