News Flashes: Announcers and Lawsuits

Nothing big going on yet today in our little corner of media, but there are a few small pieces of news to know about.

*Singer and television host Joey Fatone has been named the new announcer of @Family_Feud.  Allegedly he basically just says where the show is taping from, the host, and the name of the show.  So, if I had to guess, it’ll probably just be pre-recorded.  New host Steve Harvey, who you can see doing his stuff here, goes back to meeting the families instead of the pre-taped video introduction.   Joey takes over for previous announcer Burton Richardson, who moves to Hasbro working on Family Game Night which we went over quite some time ago.  You can read about that show here.

*There’s a game show related law suit.  Read it here.  Click here to read about it.  Please no bashing.

*The British variety/game show Magic Numbers, which our writer Travis Penery covered for us, finally had its first big winner.  Pamela Mullins from Sheffield won a massive £290,000 live on the show this weekend.  We’re trying to hunt down video of it, but in the mean time check out various clips of the show by clicking here.

If we’re missing something just let us know.  Don’t forget to check out PinPoint which debuted today.

Well this’ll make some people happy. I know a lot of people don’t really like Burton’s voice at all, and I can vouch for that.

    • George S says:

Well I must say I’m kinda disappointed with Burton leaving Feud. He’s the only announcer I’ve ever known to host the Feud. Before everybody gets upset with that last sentence I mean he’s who I’ve grown up with watching the Feud. As much as I loved *NSYNC when they were big, something tells me some boy band washout isn’t going to fill the position very nicely.

      Who’s a lot of people?

  • Paul says:

Wow. Burton and Rich both leaving the shows they’ve announced in the same season.

Someone had better warn Johnny Gilbert and Charlie O’Donnell fast.

  • James Greek says:

mixed emotions about Burton leaving Feud. He and Steve Harvey would have worked great together on Feud. A Black host’/announcer team like Burton worked with Lynn Swann on To Tell the Truth ’90, Clint Holmes on Campus-All Star Challenge etc. But I am glad he is going to announce Family Game Night.

    • DeVares says:

Let’s not forget his most popular announcing job of all (even though it wasn’t a game show), The Arsenioooooooooooooooooooooooooo Hall Show.

  • Adam S. says:

I’m glad they’re doing away with the pre-taped family intros, they’re so cheesy and almost painful to watch.

  • Alex says:

So, how many lawsuits does that make against The Price is Right? 18,000? xD

    I think this show might seriously have a world record for lawsuits filed against it. -_-;

That being said, it does sound like Shane has a pretty good case. The drama certainly explains why she took so long to return to the show. The only problem is that she returned in Season 36, after Bob left!

“Stirling claims Barker insisted that she wouldn’t work while she was pregnant because it was “dangerous” and a “liability” … an advised her to “go home and take care of your baby.”"

That sounds a lot like Bob’s attitude towards pregnant contestants…he always told them to take it easy, and would give them 45 seconds if they played Switcheroo. What he doesn’t seem to understand, though (perhaps because he was raised in the 1930′s and 1940′s), is that pregnant women aren’t that delicate and fragile! =P

    • DENo1MatchGameFan says:

He wouldn’t know about pregnant women Alex cause he and his late wife Dorothy Jo didn’t have any kids of their own! Barker just sounds like he never wanted fat people on his show, plain and simple! I mean look at the bogus claims he made about Holly Hallstrom being ‘fat’ 15 years prior? Need I say more?

  • David says:

I guess we’ve gotten to the point where the only requirement to announce shows is to speak and maybe have a cup of coffee on some other TV shows. I mean, I have nothing against Fatone, but I don’t like the idea of boy-band members anywhere near my TV (even if he’s hosted a game show in the past). Fortunately, he’s not needed for much, so I’ll let it pass.

As for the latest lawsuit; sadly, it has come with the territory. So few people will really care unless it directly affects TPIR going forward (which it shouldn’t). There’s nothing else you can really say about it.

  • Viet Nguyen says:

what is the new money tree and what are the new lifelines?

  • Rich says:

I am glad to see that they are doing away with the pre-recorded intros to the families on Family Guy. It took away from the game-show feel and made it look like a reality show. The interviews do not take that long to do live in studio.
