We’ve been informed about two new shows being pitched at NATPE this week. One is “Let’s Play Crosswords”. This one comes from Merv Griffin and is being pushed by Program Partners. The push apparently began last night. Nothing is really known about this show’s format, though. However, it’s Merv Griffin so I think we’ll be safe to say it won’t be a flaming sack of crap. B&C stated that Griffin probably went with an independent than a major study because he can reap more of the upside coin if the show is a success.

Also, Distraction, the company that did the incredible Game Show Network pilot “Casino”, is getting set to launch “Guess Who?” at NATPE. “Guess Who?” is a French show that involves famou personalities, a talent contest, guess work, and a lot of money. From what we’ve read, contestants have to perform some talent act in sixty seconds. The judges will give that person one, two, or three points. Each point is a question that may be asked to narrow the identity of the celebrity down. If a contestant guesses the identity of the celebrity, the contestant wins money. If multiple contestants do, they split the money.

Yet another show, says TVWeek, is “Laugh Off”. The show will involve two comedians battle each other in different comedy games like stand-up, improv, charades, mime, and tabloid quiz. This one could be interesting.

What about the other shows you ask? TVWeek is calling it “Temptation”. Other places are calling it “Temptations”. I have no idea what it’ll be called in the end, but as we know, “Temptation(s)” has already been cleared and will probably get more locations. NBC stated that the daytime version of “Deal or No Deal” is on the back burner, but stations are extremely pushing NBCU to launch it and just find a host. We’ve heard nothing new about “Catch Phrase” or “Connections”, but it’s said by trade publications one of those two will launch. Also, despite what people close to the show want me to say (which I plan on continuing to say), TVWeek is the THIRD place to say that plans for “The Joker’s Wild” have been “pulled back”. Stayed tuned during the entire week for constant and up-to-the-minute NATPE news.
