New Rich Fields Interview Online
We here at BuzzerBlog have been Rich Fields fans for a long time, and note of his dismissal from The Price is Right disappointed a lot of people. The outcry of the fans had us chip in ourselves and gave you the information to let you write to the show. Well recently a new Rich Fields interview has been posted revealing pretty much anything you need to know about Rich Fields leaving the show. More information including a link to the interview after the break.
The blog neon tommy has posted an interview seemingly stemming from our earlier post here at Buzzer, with them even giving us a mention, and we thank them for that. The interview reveals interesting details as to when he was told the news (three days before the Season 39 premiere!), and as to why it happened in the first place. Also such information as to where he’s at now. Check it out, it’s an interesting read. I think Rich is definitely missed in Season 39. However if he’s not part of their “new vision”, then I suppose it’s for the best. J.D. Roberto is doing a pretty solid job, although it still makes me feel I’m watching Shop Til You Drop (the crappy 2003 version) sometimes. I’m excited for Brad Sherwood, whose episodes are reported to be airing this November. What do you guys think of the changes so far? Good? Bad? Don’t care? Let us know.

Hopefully seeing this, the group of people who kept blaming Drew for this will stop. Kinda sounds like he’s still a little bitter about being let go…and probably for good reason. It stinks he’s not there anymore and I couldn’t agree more with the Shop Til’ You Drop reference, Alex. Although the “comfortable” voice comments came off a little edgy to me. If there’s anything in Hollywood that’s true, it’s that the only constant is change.
Look at the author. We have our own avatars now. You can tell who writes it even easier.
Ahh…my bad haha.
While it’s strange not hearing Rich every morning, I’m not going to start pining for CBS to bring him back until I’ve heard everyone who’s auditioning. I’m not a big fan of Rich’s announcing. (He brought up wanting to be a game show host in his interview; I think he would make a better host than an announcer.)
So far, I’m not thrilled about JD Roberto’s announcing. I’ve read comparisons to Gene Wood in this regard: meaning, he has a good announcing voice, but it just doesn’t suit TPIR. I’d have to agree with that.
Jeff Davis (you can hear him in the 2 pm episodes airing this week) is a bit better. Sometimes he reminds me a bit of Johnny O, but it’s still Jeff announcing. Hrm.
Still looking forward to Brad. (He tweeted his eps are airing in November.)
The fact that Sherwood’s eps are airing in November (ahem, sweeps) strikes me as significant. I am eager to hear those and see the interplay with Drew.
I think they put those episodes on during sweeps because Brad and Drew were on “Whose Line…”. If Wayne Brady was on one of those episodes, it would be a reunion of three of the main people from that show.
If they are hoping that Brad will be their big “rating’s getter” they are going to be sorely mistaken! I am a die hard Rich Fields fan, but to try and be fair, I have tuned in a couple times on each new guy. (even though they WERE NOT fair to Rich) I tuned in today to hear the great “Brad Sherwood” … the one they said was both a comedian, and had announcee experience. And in all honesty… he may be the worst one yet! I swear its like each one is worse than the last. What in the world are they thinking? We are literally watching the decline of the show over one horrible decision.
While J.D.’s doing a great job at announcing, and even making a quick remark or two, he’s doing just that…announcing. I’ve seen a couple of the Jeff Davis episodes, and A.) I like how he gets in on some of the games and prizes (bringing out the tags for 5 price tags; hiding in a steam shower or playing a drum set) and B.) maybe I’m the only one that thinks this, but there’s just something about his voice that reminds me of Rod Roddy, and so bearing in mind I still haven’t seen any Sherwood eps., I have to say so far Davis is my favorite.
I thought the same thing about Jeff Davis having Rod Roddy moments.
But he’s got to work on the intro a little bit. During the bulk of the show, he’s pretty good. But the intro… he just hasn’t quite got it yet.
Of course you haven’t. The Sherwood eps haven’t aired yet!
I’m a little surprised Jeff Davis is getting compared to The Illustrious One. In my head, I’m hearing more Johnny O at times.
The story of Drew and Rich talking about life after returning from the FIFA World Cup was touching. Drew cared for his Clevelander as much as he does for his family. The interviewer, Josh, was the winner of the Showcase where his opponent barely overbid on a Porsche. It’s clear Drew showed loyalty here from Parma to Avon Lake. And Rich being at CBS make me wonder if he will be the voice that does commercial breaks for the SEC on CBS.
I don’t like JD Roberto at all. He’s fit for some shows but not Price. He just sounds to bland. Especially the intro and car reveals. Haven’t seen Davis’ yet so can’t say anything about him.
I like Jeff the best. He has the voice. He just needs some work. And I’m not going to be writing CBS either demanding Rich come back as the announcer. I’m not that crazy.
I wonder if Jeopardy! would hire Rich to be its announcer.
According to Brad’s twitter page that two more announcers are coming.
I disagree somewhat. Still wish Rich would come back.. although not likely. I doubt he’d want to come back. I think the show is lost now. (at least the show I loved) I have enjoyed any of the guys. Its just not TPIR now. It’s a morphed “Whose Price is it Anyway”, in more ways than one. Jeff has a slight better voice, but he is too whacky. I guess I long for the good ol days. Drew and Rich made perfect “TPIR”music. No matter how tight Drew is with his whose line guys…. Rich was TPIR. I think the show made a huge mistake. I want to see The Price is RIght, not an improv variety show. And I did write them.. and sign the petition! Not that it will do any good… but at least I stood up for what I believed was right. I’ve canceled it on my DVR!
I think you can read the comments (224 at last count) on the previous article published here by Alex Davis…”CONFIRMED, Rich Fields no longer with The Price Is Right”.. to see that the overwhelming public thinks this is a mistake. And the article that you were the first to publish, “Rich Field’s” official statement. The public may be forced to accept the changes… and some may wait and see where the chips fall between the new guys before they make a decision. But it only takes a few minutes to read through comments from folks here on your own site to see what the majority of us think. This was a massive mistake..IMHO
So they want the next announcer to be a comedian. Big deal. If he’s a good announcer, then who cares? He might end up being better than Rich!
And as far as I can tell, the “variety show” elements that I think Mike Richards said would be coming to the show are already here, in the Jeff Davis episodes. Notice how Jeff actually participates in one pricing game per episode? So far, he’s handled the Five Price Tags’s five price tags, lounged in a spa, and danced with Gwendolyn Osborne in a prize that had dance lessons thrown in as a bonus.
If this is indeed one of the variety show elements that were promised, then people like John Linker above and all the fanb01z over at…that OTHER TPIR fansite…are really, really, REALLY overreacting over nothing. Jeff’s cameo appearances haven’t been distracting nor have they taken away from the show, and they actually remind me of Johnny Olson and Rod Roddy’s cameos in Showcase skits.
So, uh, what’s the problem? D:

And on a related side note, I really wish people would quit bashing Mike Richards.
Like with Bart Eskander, I really don’t understand all the hatred for him, and it just smacks of butthurt, sour grapes, and sand in the vagina over Roger Dobkowitz being fired.
The Dob had to start somewhere, too, you know…!
Speak for yourself…Alex… I find Jeff popping up everywhere very distracting. He is a baffoon and camera hog. That sort of stuff may fly on an improv show… but not on TPIR. And that JD was not funny at all and he sound like he was on helium all the time… he was cocky and his remarks were snide. Just because we have a different opinion than you Alex.. does not mean we are wrong, or “over reacting”. As far as the “Mike Richards” bashing… he deserves it.
You are entitled to your opinion, but the fact is clear that you are the “minority” on this subject.
I have to agree with John. First off I think Rich Fields being fired was a bonehead decision. Rich had more of a professional voice which sounded fine to me. If they wanted him involved more with the show why didn’t they write more showcase skits for him to be in. Still this whole new direction mess sounds more like Freematle getting rid of more staff from the Barker Era. Heck, why not get rid of the models and replace them with female improv comedians.
If the next announcer has to be a comedian then fine, but so far none of them impressed me at all. They’re not funny and they sound like rank amateurs. That plus the forced comedy and popping up everywhere is more a distraction than an addition. I don’t think many fans would be upset if they picked a decent replacement. JD sounds like he has a nasal problem and Jeff has no range and is cocky. Both of them are not funny, but perhaps Mike Richards is laughing his ass off at those stupid and snide remarks by these announcers. Mike Richards and Jen Mullen deserve all the bashing they gets for this bonehead decision.
If ain’t broke don’t fix it…(don’t mess with it)….from a viewer stand point Rich was the ideal announcer for the show …these new announcers just don’t have it the TONE to match the show… whose ideal was this to have the models talking, another mistake…I will give you credit replacing Barker was a major decision dropping the older demographic and replacing it with a younger one that will grow with program for several more years…. the selection of Drew was an excellent choice…that in it self should have indicated to you that you were going in the right direction….sure your ratings would have to bottom out with Barker’s departure but I know as well as you that you’ve seen a significant increase in your ratings with all the distractions surrounding we viewers in this day and age….being in broadcasting myself I liked the way you were taking show but now these are major mistakes…..”IF AIN’T BROKE ..DON’T FIX WITH IT”
I miss Rich, he was a good announcer, had a pleasant friendly voice.
It would be nice to bring him back. I too think it was a big mistake. What was the problem
why was Rich let go.? I just notice the other day when I watched PIR that the announcer ‘s
voice was different. I guess I now diffinitely will not watch it much.
Great info once again! Thanks a lot:)
