New “Price is Right” Candidate: Mark Steines

CNN today added some more rumors that the giant confusion that is the new host of The Price is Right. Listed as frontrunners are Mark Steines, George Hamilton, and lord help us all Mario Lopez. CNN is saying that Entertainment Tonight anchor Mark Steines is getting the strongest buzz to take over Bob Barker’s role. However, George Hamilton was the new host a bit ago. And David Price was a bit ago. So can you decipher the facts from shit? I’m starting to just get confused and not care. Obviously we’re not believing any “strongest buzz” thing until CBS announces a new host. CNN also says that Todd Newton, John O’Hurley, and Mike Richards are being considered.

Hey, at least CNN is a bit more reliable than TMZ.

CBS will announce something next month like they do with their other shows. I don’t care as well because they are going by how they feel on each person so I’m just waiting until CBS does tell us…

Besides the update on Mr. Steines, tell me something I don’t know. Like others, my radar is tuned out until somebody says the final word has been given…

However, who is this guy Steines again? I sure as heck have never heard of him… :/

Mario Lopez was the host of Masters of the Maze, but he wasn’t that great a host there. He was competent but he added nothing to the show, save for star power.

I thought “Mario Lopez” and “star power” were mutually exclusive terms…next week’s rumor will be Donny Osmond…

Steines would be interesting but not likely to be better than Newton, Summers, or many others. Someone is going to show that they want this bad and that they have the chops to step right in with their own style and personality. It should be someone who already has done the Vegas version, or a recent classic.

If they make the wrong choice it is certain death. Remember the horrible job Billy Bush did on LMAD? Michael Berger on Match Game? Lynn Swann on TTTT?

This is rather like selecting a Pope. Do they want a caretaker like O’Hurley or Hamilton, or do they want someone who could preside over the show for decades as Barker did. This is why they need to go with someone mid-40s with some solid hosting experience under their belt.

Too bad Tom Bergeron isn’t available… he would be perfect !

I hope Rich Fields gets the position. Bob is basically grooming him to be his replacement. But is Rich running?

I think the choices of front runners all are bad and an insult to the legacy Barker is leaving behind. A lot of them are either not seasoned game show veterans or haven’t hosted a game show at all. I’m still shocked to wonder why either Marc Summers or Bob Goen aren’t even considered a candidate.

It could be worse. CBS could do a reality show where viewers can text/call in to vote someone out every week a la American Idol. and the winenr gets to be the host of TPIR. But I agree with jesse, for TPIR you need a seasoned host. surprised they haven’t asked Bob Eubanks or Wink Martindale to audition. I would even consider (don’t hate me guys) Ben Stein.

Although great legends, I think they’re much too old to fill that post though it would be great to see them back as host again. As for Stien, he’s not first on my list, but at least people know him and I’d rank him higher than any of the choices they have now.

O’Hurley seems like the best candidate by a significant margin… he has game show experience (yes, a limited showing, but a strong one), some name/face recognition (Seinfeld character, Bab’s hubby, Dancing With The Stars, etc.), and he’s “only” 50 years old, which gives him enough time to establish quite a bit of longevity should things click. Furthermore, his highly affable personality is a major plus for a show like TPIR.

I agree with you Alex. John O’ Hurley would be my top choice to host TPIR. I can see him hosting both price and feud at the same time. It is just to bad Tom Bergeron is under contract ABC. He would be the one for the job if Hurley doesn’t get it.

Am I the only one who thinks Rich Fields should be the next host of TPiR? According to Wikipedia, Rich & Pat Sajak share an odd relationship… they were both TV meteorologists. Tom Kennedy was an announcer before he started hosting. Gene Rayburn was an announcer on the Tonight show in the 50’s before he hosted his first show. So, I will ask this again. Does anyone think Rich will get the job?

I’m not too sure about Rich Fields as host of TPIR. I could see him as a host of a game show in the future. But honestly, I think he’s just not experienced enough as a host to do a show like TPIR. O’Hurley, I have to agree with the others. He has background and he has that comfortable personality—heck he even cares about pets **If you saw his interview with Regis and Kelly earlier in the week**

I know that Rosie O’Donnell is an in/out nominee for the position, but there is an “Out” in her contract for The View that would allow her to host TPIR if she were offered. Newton, I think the same position as Fields, and Marc Summers is just plain out done in my honest opinion. We’ll just have to wait until CBS makes its final decision.

Anon, I have been one of Rich’s strongest supporters since news of Bob’s retirement broke way back in October. Who knows, they might have some last-minute tryouts before CBS and Fremantle finally make up their minds. I think Rich would really fare well with the focus groups

I agree with Zach. Tom B. would make a great host for TPIR. Unfortunately DWTS is too popular and hes already in contract. O’ Hurley would be the next choice. I’d rather see him host Price instead of Feud in my opinion.

It can’t be O’ Hurley- because he’s already doing Feud- and leaving now would cause -too much of a disruption- to that show (i.e. yet another new host or must beg Karn or Anderson to return.) Rosie lost her Queen of Nice for a Queen of Mean title and just feels wrong now.

Fields is a tiny ##### (you haven’t seen him in person) and showed certain contestants and tryout host Newton much disrespect.Plus, he hogged the spotlight whenever possible. He very much lacks Bob’s grace under pressure, even under optimum circumstances.

Finally, Mario Lopez can go back to hell, where he came from. I wish the rest of us could be good-looking enough, to date our hot teacher and get to second place in a TV contest.

I think Family Feud will get canceled due to low raitings, and O’Hurley will replace Barker. Did anyone watch Extra? Barker wants Art Linkletter to replace him. LMAO!

Fields may well be best staying where he is. O’Hurley may well be the most suitable, but it all depends on the interaction between Feud and TPIR taping schedules. Newton might also work, though it would be a pretty big change of style.

I’m loving Alex’s hyperlinks to ‘we’ve heard these names before’ references. Truly superb.
