From Broadcasting and Cable, Sony Pictures Television President Steve Mosko announced Sony’s major presense at the next Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show in January. Jeopardy! will be on display with 11 episodes being shot live-to-tape from the showroom floor on a 16,000 square foot stage next to Sony’s booth. 600 people will be able to fit in the audience in the set.
The main attraction is going to be the new set, though. It has been announced that Jeopardy!’s new set will debut during the January taped episodes and aired at a time not quite known yet beyond Spring 2009. Sony will also showcase a new way to play Jeopardy! during the show’s airing from your home with Airplay called “Jeopardy Live”. Deal or No Deal uses a similar game though for some reason they never promote it. Really curious to see what the new set will look like. No real clues yet, we just heard it will be state of the art, and we’d really expect no less in 2008. The current set got caught in a really weird transition between the standard definition and high definition transformation, so it’ll be nice to see what they can do with a set that’s specifically designed for HD.

For those who don’t know. Airplay’s DoND game is for mobile phones and you can play along with the show. predictions mainly. but with J!Live, you get a chance to play along and guess the correct response for points.
The bad news is that it’s going to be playable by mobile phone only.
(boo-urns!)
Here’s the info from Airplay themselves

Wow! I am imagining what it may look like, and I’m psyched!
J!Live will also be on my phone….soon, that’s for sure!

I’m with all of you. I’m imagining how the set will look. Maybe like a high tech version of the very first set. As for J! Live, it’ll definately be on my phone.

Well, I’m kinda sad to hear that the set I played on is on its way out…but I really think the set needed updating anyway. I really, really hope the flashing Jeopardy! letters from days gone by make a comeback…

I never liked the current set anyway, the 1997-2002 (i think) one was so awesome looking I was dissapointed when they unveiled the new one, to me it looks like a demented sushi bar.

I had a feeling a new set was on its way, since we had the music changes at the beginning of this season. Wonder if it will be keeping in line with the retro feel of the music, which really doesn’t fit the current set at all. I’ve never liked the current set to begin with, and hopefully the new one will look a lot better.

Maybe a combination of past sets using the flashing ‘JEOPARDY!’ sign in the bg, with some really cool stuff for HD included, better yet, what will the podia (podium–pluralized ) look like? Who knows, but I’m looking forward to it reguardless, almost as excited as I was about WoF getting a touch screen puzzle board :D

My favorite “Jeopardy!” set growing up was the 1991-1996 set, and it is still the best set “Jeopardy!” ever had. I also loved the 1991-1997 theme with the bongo track, as well as the classic “Think!” music from Final Jeopardy!. It will not hurt to travel back in time to this era if it ever happens very soon.
