New Game Show “House of Fun” Now Casting

You know you really have to wonder what some of these development/pitch meetings are like.  I just imagine people saying, “We liked Show X, how can we copy it as much as possible without getting sued?”  That’s where this new show from Reville, the production company from the guy who essentially destroyed NBC Ben Silverman, comes in.  It’s called House of Fun.  Ironically if and when it makes it to air, if you turn ti on I really doubt your house will have much fun at all.  It’s basically the same thing we’ve seen over and over, just with like three different concepts we’ve seen over and over again shoved into one package.  One depressing looking package.

The casting notice asks if kids, specifically boys, ever wondered what their house would be like without any rules or any parents.  It also asks if parents wonder what their kids do while they aren’t home.  Given the boys they are looking for are in the age range of 13-15 maybe they’d rather not know, but I digress.  They are looking for boys who, “want to have loads of fun, play outrageously cool games, and win some money while doing it.”  Amusingly if you put that in the Personals section of Craigslist you’d probably get a totally different response.  The show seems to be combining stuff that hasn’t aired yet which is even more amusing.

House of Fun seems to let kids play certain games and do certain challenges for cash and prizes while their parents aren’t home.  And I’ve got a feeling the parents coming home at a certain time has something to do with it.  So we’ve nicely ripped off something like the forthcoming Perfect 10 and The Cube with the basic premise of these challenges in a set time for cash and prizes.  We’ve also ripped off the forthcoming Honey, Please with these household stunts.  Actually the entire show sounds like Honey, Please, which we previously discussed, just in kids form.  They are going to be bringing the game to your home also.  Has that premise ever worked?  I’m pretty sure every game show which took the game to the contestant’s house has gone down spectacularly.

So it’s a giant combination of ideas which either failed ideas or ideas which haven’t even been tried yet so no one knows if it’ll work or not.  I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but it’s got to be annoying to have your show ripped off before it even hits the air. Bad jokes and usual cynicism aside, if this is a show you think your son between the ages of 13-15 would like to take part in, click here to head to the casting page.

“We liked Show X, how can we copy it as much as possible without getting sued?” If Show X is Finders Keepers, which, judging by the picture, it is ripping off of, don’t let Nickelodeon know. On the other hand, if it’s Fun House, which, judging by the title, it might be a ripoff of it, head for the hills, because there could be several heads at Warner Bros. (which owns the rights to Fun House) that could/would be pissed off at this. Then again it is produced by Ben “I’ve f**ked up NBC so bad it’ll make the ’70s on the network look good” Silverman.

I thought the MTV Game Show "Damage Control" was already created.

Actually, Ben Silverman no longer owns Reveille. It was bought by Murdoch's daughter, and it is Reveille/Shine something or other.
