New “Family Feud” Logo For 2007-2008 Season
The new logo for Family Feud‘s 2007-2008 season was released, and I have to say, it’s really awesome. Much better than whatever the hell they had last season. This retro-looking logo looks back to the wonderful Richard Dawson days which practically everything on the show does currently. Not only that, but this season we’re hearing the furniture in the family portrait area has a new 70s look to it. Also, apparently John O’Hurley is doing even better. I don’t see how he could get that much better since he was incredible last season (except for the damn jumping at the buzzer, which thankfully ended). O’Hurley just might be the best host since Richard Dawson if he keeps this up. I’ve never been a big fan of Ray Combs, so that gap between Combs/O’Hurley is quickly narrowing. I don’t think we’ve ever talked about this; what were your thoughts on last season? While we’re at it, what do you think of this new logo?

I can’t say I like the new logo all that much… it seems like a generic knockoff of the classic logo.
Chris,
I think that’s the point of them changing the logo. I like it.
Now they need to bring back dollars instead of points in the base game and offer them $10/point in Fast Money.
Of course…anything that’s not the original is always bad. Geez.
Anyway, I thought Last season was the best season of Feud since 1992. John is a good, congenial host, (especially after he stopped the jumping thing) and the set is more “Feud” and less Family Fortunes (the Karn set, although nice, was a bit too modern and looked more like a British show).
I like the new logo, as it’s a updated spin on the old logo.
Overall, the good things (the set, theme, host) far outweigh the little nitpicks (the audience signs, the weird placement behind the board) and make this, IMHO, a very good update of Feud.
I like it… John does a wonderful job on the show… Now only if they would move it here from 3 or 4 in the afternoon to 7:00 or 7:30 where I can see it!
New Logo: Awesome!
Host: Still Awesome!
Set: Very good, sans the board/audience backdrop.
The Game: Just fine. I know many of us will clamor to bring back dollars in the main game and up the Fast Money payouts a little. But c’mon, even if they don’t, is it that big a deal? The game is still great regardless of that.
I love the new logo! except there’s something missing!
1. the original theme music
2. the lolly pop tree
They should change the music dont make it too retro. Its 2007 not 1978 and the classic theme is nice but its too outdated. i prefer the modern look the anderson set
I suspect the show will now be even better. Hopefully it will stick around for a long time.
i don’t like the new logo, but i have no idea why… i think it’s something about the “y” in “family.” please don’t ask me to justify that, i couldn’t do it to save my life. i mean, i don’t mind that it’s a throwback to the original logo, but something about that font just drives me batty, and in particular, that Y. i dunno. regardless, i’ll still watch the show, so why bother griping about the logo too much?
richard karn, in my opinion, was a decent host. i think that most of that decision was the fact that he was at least slightly more appealing than louie anderson (i’ll let you decide on which plane i’m talking about). richard stumbled around for a joke at times, and sometimes (usually) they were horrible jokes, but i let that slide.
but then i saw john.
my word, john did that show wonders. he has a sense of charisma that trumps anything karn ever did. he doesn’t reach for jokes, which richard did so much. the jokes either came to him, or he didn’t go for them at all. john was entertaining, and made the show worth watching again. thank you, john, for definitely NOT being a pile of dung, which certain other hosts were.
as for the rest of the last season of feud, i thought the set overhaul was a much-needed improvement. each new season of anderson/karn just added something to the set, but never really made much of an interesting change. it’s also cool to see some audience in the background… i’ve always enjoyed sets that get audience in them. of course, i truly wonder… those people that the audience zooms on that are holding the signs rooting for the family… who wants to bet they AREN’T part of the family? :D
bringing back the family portrait was a good idea too. although, i think the families need to be better taught when to break out of the pose. some families are already live-action before the camera even gets to them. new furniture for the next season? i would probably never notice, unless if it’s no-holds-barred make-no-mistake 70′s.
i pay particular attention to music… and really, it’s nice that they at least changed the theme music a bit, but it could use a decent overhaul sometime in the near future. maybe it just reminds me a bit too much of karn.
I like this logo. Now make a faithful representation of the original set.
Oh, and bring back the original (1976-1985, 1988-1994 or 1994-1995) theme song, too.
Steve,
Don’t worry, I totally get what you’re talking about with that Y!
Anyway, I agree with the board backdrop comments, they need to ditch the audience and extend the backdrop all the way. I don’t think they will change the theme, even though they should, due to them trying it in the Karn era.
Also, just as a comment to an earlier post, I thought the Family Fortunes set (All-Stars version) was very, very nice! But it does not fit the original US version, for historical and nostalgic reasons as was stated, but anyhow, does anybody else agree that the UK set is one of the best?
I haven’t been crazy about John, but I will give him another chance come the new season.
I think the 1994 theme would work here much, much better than the rather poor Karn theme remix they use now.
Honestly, I don’t know why everyone is clamoring to bring back the old set & theme music. They tried using the Combs theme a few years back, and it ended up clashing with the rest of the show, so much so that I actually thought it made the show itself less watchable. If they ever did decide to rescore the original theme song, they should do the same thing that they did to the new logo – harken back to the old days, but give enough of a modern twist to it so that it doesn’t seem antiquated.
Can’t say I watched much of O’Hurley’s Feud last season, but what I did see was very nice. If they keep the show improving the way they’ve gone this past season, we’ll see it in the ratings for sure.
I really loved last season of the Family Feud. O’Hurley was a great choice for host (although it keeps him away from TPIR, where he might be even better) and I think the new set is really cool, especially the audience backdrops. I like the fact that they brought back the family entrances, but something seems a little bit off. The set is a little too dark, I think. I’m not really that crazy about the new logo; I wish the show would stop living in the past sometimes. It’s okay to become a little more modern. Everything was very classy last season. I’m afraid that if they try to introduce too much of the past, the show will lose that.
I actually like the new Feud logo. I hope that the show will just return to the way it was when the Feud was last good in 1992. O’Hurley has proven himself. And he so reminds viewers of Richard Dawson. He wears great suits, his energy is decently high and he has a habit of kissing the hands of the cute looking gals.
My favorite opening of the whole Feud series was the original Anderson opening. Although i dont know if it would work with the new logo. Maybe the show will borrow features from its international sister programs like Britain’s Family Fortunes, or Australia’s Bert’s Family Feud.
The reason all of us in the message boards keeps bringing up the little things of the feud in the good ol days was because these things is what made Family Feud work. Its really a matter of finding the balance in the departments which the program is lacking in.
2007-08 will be an interesting year for game shows. Probably the most anticipated season for game shows since Millionaire came to the states. Im sure if the show works out the kinks and remember its place as a modern classic, the feus will have probably its best season in decades.
Personally, I love it!! better than last year’s. it falls into the neo-retro thing they did with the set. and John O’Hurley…Godsend!
A couple of things though, Personally…I liked the theme remix (especially if you add bass to it but I digress. Keep it or remix the original theme
Secondly, They need to get rid of the camera shotset that they had from the Louie/Karn version. and go back (in a way) to the old school shotset from the original feud.
Finally, I would love if they get rid of “Times New Roman” on the score board and put a more suitable font [DING!] or make the board panels black and use the “eggcrate” font a la Game Show Marathon.
If Feud hasn’t worked, as someone alluded to earlier, then how is it entering its 9th season?
Also, Feud isn’t taping at CBS, at least according to ocatv.com, which has Feud still at Tribune Studios.
I enjoyed last season a whole lot more than I did with Karn. I will say that Karn was an improvement over Louie though but John O Hurley has been the best host of Family Feud since Ray Combs and Richard Dawson. I actually like the logo for this.
I like it! Now if only they can change the music. I hate that theme so much! And John is suave and debonair, but theres no one like Richard.
*sigh*
I, ONCE AGAIN, must be the voice of reason.
Different hosts, sets, themes, etc. aside, you really want to know why the current incarnation of Family Feud HAS worked?
…………IT’S THE GAME!
Listen, say what you want about changes and what not, the one thing that has stayed constant with Feud since it’s inception has been the game itself, no changes. It is still about “100 people surveyed,” “find the most popular answer,” “the other team gets a chance to steal if you get three strikes……”, etc. The game, for the most part has stayed tried and true, and is still one of the best game show formats ever created.
I mean, Surly you were AWARE of that?! Certainly you were not too busy debating sets and hosts so much that you actually forgot about…..THE GAME?
The game’s been broken since day 1, regardless of the scoring system. If they went to 300 points with a single-single-double-triple-triple setup with no sudden death, the game would be that much better. In other words, what you’re saying is that if we had The Greased-Up Deaf Guy hosting, a set which looks like someone’s garage, music which is a 4-year-old randomly hitting keys on a keyboard, and an announcer who sounds like he got hit with a 95 MPH fastball in the groin, then the show would still be watchable because it’s the game that counts? Riiiight.
Trust me, you’re not the voice of reason. Don’t put yourself on a pedestal when it’s made out of cardboard and it’s trembling.
That’s a pretty contrarian argument.
Nobody is suggesting that Feud would have done just as well with an unqualified staff and terrible presentation. (Although you can argue that they managed with Louie, depending on your opinion of his hosting job.) But guess what – EVERY show fails unless they have adequate production value. Espeically considering the fact that by most accounts, the gameplay, the staff AND the presentation have all improved as the series has progressed.
The point is, the game has stayed very true to its original format, rule tweaks aside. Think about it – can you think of another show that’s been revived in this era that didn’t have its rules completely butchered? It happened to MG, it happened to CS, it happened to Pyramid, and it’s gonna happen to SotC/Temptation. The only two show that have managed to come through relatively unmolested is Hollywood Squares and Feud. And lo and behold, they’re the only two revivals to last longer than two years. That ought to account for something.
Point taken, Tim. I was a smidge riled up since that poster claims he’s the voice of reason when A. he isn’t (I’m not either, but I don’t come across as a smug “holier than thou” type) and B. the game, which has been around in its present form for 8 years, isn’t as polished as previous incarnations.
I kind of like the new logo. What was with the one they had from the past season? Terrible! John O’Hurley is a pretty good host in my opinion, although both Ray Combs and Richard Karn (aka Al Borlin) did an equally good job. I have only seen maybe one or two Louie Anderson episodes and they sucked. The set is pretty good, remembering what the original looked like. I hope O’Hurley doesn’t get the job on “The Price is Right”. He should stick to the job that he’s already good at doing. Go John!
“Don’t put yourself on a pedestal when it’s made out of cardboard and it’s trembling.”
Classic.
I agree, the new logo seems so fitting for the new season. The previous season’s logo was uncreative and really HUGE!! But it does not really have any creativity at all. This logo shows their style and creativity.
I like the new logo a lot. I thought the new logo for the last season was definitely a step up from the original new logo, but I think it was still a little bizarre. The gripe that I had with Feud since they brought it back was the fact that they took a total radical change from what it originally was like, hence it alienated the ‘old’ Feud fans. I actually stop watching it for a little while especially with really really obnoxious Louie Anderson and boring Richard Karn. John O’Hurley was the best decision that Feud has made in a long time…and I hope he is just as successful as Richard Dawson (always my favourite) is. Why is it that the Brits can do it better than the Americans?
However, there are some things that I would like to see still out of the show.
- The dollar instead of the point system was a lot better. It actually makes you feel like you are working for something, and I feel like at least giving the family $250.00 is a lot better than a crappy parting gift.
- I think they should bring back the old music…the song was not that hard to ‘update’ for the 92-93 series when Dawson returned (ps…a really bad era for him) so I don’t understand why they can’t update it again for 2007.
-And maybe a little crazy on my part…but I think that the board should do a virtual turn when the new round starts instead of the flip of the screen. It would have that really nostalgic feeling..that I would appreciate.
Other than that great job Feud (FINALLY!) Keep up the good work!
I don’t think the losing families even get parting gifts now. They don’t make any mention of them at all.
Anyway, I like the new logo. Now if only they get rid of the lame signs, but I’m not holding my breath on that one.
Frankly, IMHO, the 94 theme would be suitable enough for today’s FF. It IS the old theme, but much updated, and very catchy. The intro was great, the perfect theme to introduce a host and build the energy, and the ending theme is a great sendoff after a win.
O’Hurley is a great host, I believe, but this whole 70′s furniture thing has me puzzled. Why are they bothering? Is it really gonna be so much of a noticeable change that they think more people will watch? Then there’s always the question of if it’ll look out of place with all the modern neon and lights and stuff over the rest of the set (which is my 2nd favorite set of FF’s, after Combs). You don’t want props to look awkward on the set, of course.
The new logo, however, I like a lot. The set, with the big FF background oval, as I call it, is a flashback, along with all the moody blues and classic styled podiums, to Combs and Dawson. It’s modern enough, but a definite flashback, nonetheless. Maybe the blue on its oval will change colors like the oval on the set, for more of a modern feel. (I’m just theorizing, don’t bash me for that).
Either way, FF I think is better now than it has been for some time, and I hope O’Hurley sticks around for a Dawson or Combs-esh run, at the very least… :)
Last year’s logo looked kinda good on the big board…but not in any other application. Like the new logo MUCH better. O’Hurley rules. And I totally agree with Wheelloon about the theme music. The ’94 Dawson remix didn’t suck at all…it was probably the best thing about that show! Can anyone even HUM the current P.O.S? That’s part of the problem with some of the modern remakes..the music, or lack thereof. Donny’s Pyramid was the WORST theme ever, considering the 70′s and 80′s versions had kick-ass themes! Many of us could never even conceive of The Price Is Right with a different theme song!
