First off, sorry for the lack of updates recently. I have some very exciting news regarding this site and future ventures with this brand. It’s a bit too early to say what, but I might be able to tell you guys next week.
Over the end of last week and weekend, Canada launched their first game show channel called Game TV. According to our source, Ryan Milhalus, the channel is sort of a GSN of the north. airing such shows as Love Handles, Game On, Acting Crazy, Time Chase, The Jokes On Us & Supermarket Sweep. The channel will also include some reality shows like The Mole and Last Comic Standing.
What they are doing is rather interesting. They seem to be doing the opposite of other game show channels like GSN and Challenge; they are starting out with a large reality presence from the start along with game shows. Do you think this move is good? I can see this working out much better than the rebranded channels. People will be used to those shows being around. They won’t have them suddenly thrown upon theme.

I live in Canada, and I have not heard of this station. I have both Canadian satellite and cable, and it is not broadcast on either. Is this a hoax?
Hmmm…wonder if they’ll revive “Definition” and “Party Game”…?
Personally, I’m looking forward to being able to watch The Mole again. I miss that show…
Apparently not a joke, though I haven’t heard of it either. The website is http://www.igametv.com and, awesomely, as I type this, the site says the Mad Dash is on. Keep your fingers crossed for Definition. :)
I’m not crazy about the reality shows, but I do hope they have thos US/Canada co-productions, such as Pitfall, Super Pay Cards, and Love Me, Love Me Not. Do you remember how some of those shows had an American host and thus required a Canadian to serve as the onstage announcer?
I remember that when Geoff Edwards hosted The New Chain Reaction, he had to have a Canadian announcer on stage.
Oh please! Let there be Bumper Stumpers and Jackpot!
and you know Just Like Mon and Uh Oh!
^ I vaguely remember seeing Just Like Mom/Dad when I was a kid. IIRC, it was on CBC originally.
Meanwhile…
Do you remember how some of those shows had an American host and thus required a Canadian to serve as the onstage announcer?
They had to fulfill the CRTC’s (CRTC = Canada’s FCC) Can-Con requirements (networks have to have a certain amount of “Canadian content” on their schedule). Plus, for a production to count as Canadian, there have to be a good majority of Canadians involved in it. That’s why both Super Pay Cards and The New Chain Reaction had their announcers (Mary Lou Basaraba and Rod Chalabois, respectively) on-stage.
The network’s website is here… http://www.igametv.com
I did indeed see this channel up and running over the weekend. It took over from the Casino and Gaming TV channel that is on the higher cable channels. I enjoyed watching Supermarket Sweep and I PVRed last nights airings of Mad Dash and Test Pattern! I like the way they have started it. alomst reminds me more of the old USA days with a 3 or 4 hour block of game shows with a couple of movies thrown in. So far, I’m liking it…
Any chance of the network making it to the States?
LOL, Alex with the typo on my last name. The news is not a hoax. I do know that the channel has been on for some time, until the call letters GTV. I never understood the channel, but I thought it stood for Gambling TV or something, as whenever I turned on the channel, they were showing poker or some other gambling game.
Here is how I came to know about it, or at least about “the new game tv”.
A few years back, I put together a fan page for a show called “The Mad Dash”. I loved this show as a child, and wanted to relive it. I did some research, and got in touch with the creator Sidney Cohen (who is a staple in Canadian TV).
Anyways, to make a long story short, I received an email from Sidney telling me that The Mad Dash would be airing on Game TV on Mondays. Sidney was involved with a lot of other show, which are also airing - such as Time Chase and Test Pattern.
Well, time is short, but this is great. I can only hope that some other old shows, such as Definition and Talk About would come back on there, who knows. Kudos to this channel though, great stuff and thanks you Sidney Cohen for keeping me up to date. Now I need to update my site.
Ciao.
If GSN can air those panel shows such as WHAT’S MY LINE, I’VE GOT A SECRET, and TO TELL THR TRUTH maybe Game TV pick up the entire library episodes of that landmark Canadian panel show FRONT PAGE CHALLENGE. A great variety of Americans, big and small, have appeared on this show. So why not FRONT PAGE CHALLENGE? It deserves a new audience to show these classic reruns!
I went to the website and it’s true. I’m Canadian and I’ve never heard of this channel. For Canadians who want to see it, here’s what channel it’s on on which digital cable or sattelite provider:
Rogers Personal TV: 73 & 288
Cogeco Cable: 118
Star Choice: 405
Bell Express Vu: 274
Videotron: 59
I little interesting thing I found on the schedule of this new channel which I didn’t include in my last message. Unfortunately, “Dog Eat Dog” is on the schedule. Why couldn’t just GSN be stuck with it. GTV does not need it, thank you very much, merci beaucoup.
Yeah, DED - it must be a cheap show to pick up or something, it has been played to death on GSN, now on GTV. My favourites are definitely The Mad Dash and Test Pattern, I also like Supermarket Sweep.
They don’t have Definition or It’s Your Move, or even kids’ shows like 5…4…3…2…Run! or Uh Oh!, however they do have The Next Line, Mad Dash, and Love Me Love Me not, so if anyone wants to tape a copy, I’m available for trading. I just hope they don’t pull a Nick GaS and air the same two hour block four times in one 24-hour period.
They do not have Definition . . . yet.
The problem is having masters intact . . . if they are not, then no show.
I believe The Mad Dash is notfully intacts, and there are only select episodes available. Who knows, what is being aired could even bee from Mr. Cohen’s personal library.
He also produced and directed It’s Your Move, along with some other goodies.
he’s also involved with “Inside the box” which airs in Canada on tvtropolis, never saw mad dash, but I’ve heard a lot about it, want to see it.
Also, there’s a show called “Timechase”, which is a history based game, again produced by Sidney Cohen. I’m Canadian as well, and with Rogers Personal TV, GSN and Game TV are on consecutive channels, GSN is at 287, GTV at 288. And just of note, my father was on The Joke’s On Us!. He didn’t make it to the bonus round, so he went to “The Land of Parting Gifts”. Oh, and “Love Me, Love Me Not” was hosted by none other than Ross Shafer.
I know Ross Shafer hosted “Love Me, Love Me Not” and his co-hosts were Canadian. It would be nice to have Game TV in the States.
Just of note, I went to CFTO-TV station HQ in Scarborough (which is CTV Toronto) last year, and spoke with Dave Devall, current chief meteorologist for CTV News Toronto, and announcer for Definition. He told me that they still have the master tapes from Definition, and for all I know, they still have them. Maybe Game TV is looking to pick them up?
P.S. For a CAN$50 bonus, tell me who hosted The Joke’s on Us!
For that $50CAN, it’s Monty Hall!
I am not surprised, when I asked them about the tapes, they played dumb and said they had no clue about them without consent from Jim Perry, or something goofy like that. Basicall, it was a way to shoo away a teen.
Regardless, it would be neat.
Sidney Cohen did a ot of work for various TV projects, including Inside The Box, already mentioned, and Reach for the Top.
I am such a sucker for Dash though, as I totally remember watching this as a child. I watch it every Monday, and enjoy every minute of it.
As an aside, this is a way off question. When I was a child, I remember watchign some game show, and I was never sure if it was Canadian or not. I cannot remember all the details, but the bonus round involed 4 doors or so, painted different colours. With the numbers 1 thru 4 on them. The bonus round involved a large key ring and the players trying to open up each of the four doors, going through the keys. THe doors were basically the frame standing alone.
Does anyone remember this? Like I said, my details are sketchy, and I am not even sure if it was a Canadian production or not. All I know is that it was on in teh afternoon some time.

Someone mentioned Just Like Mom in the past. According to the Game TV website, it says JLM will air Monday’s from 8 to 9 pm eastern and again at 11 to 12 pm. Now, when I tuned in tonight, The Joke’s On Us was airing, I will see if this hold true at 11 pm. REgardless, looks like another addition.
I saw that too Ryan where they mentioned Just Like Mom…I was excited to see it after all these years and it wasn’t on! I hope they add more to the line up because there aren’t too many shows. I would love for them to bring the other Monty Hall show Split Second. They should air Sale of the Century too! Loved it.
