Neil Patrick Harris Hosts “The Cube” Pilot for CBS
Developing story and I’ll add more to it as I read more, but the always great TVMoJoe at the equally great The Wrap has confirmed that CBS is the new home for the hit UK game show The Cube which is shooting a pilot next week. To add to it, Neil Patrick Harris from How I Met Your Mother is the host. So CBS has bested NBC’s ripoff Minute To Win It in format and host. In addition to hosting, Harris will be executive producing the hit show, which says to me he’s a fan of it and helped it get to where it is.
The pilot will tape in London next week, and I know we have a few people going who will report back. For those not familiar with it, The Cube sees a contestant face a variety of challenges inside a large, intimidating plexiglass cube for large sums of money. The challenges may look easy but every becomes harder inside The Cube. The Cube was originally with Fox who dropped it for Our Little Genius. It took a mere month before CBS picked it up. It’s a great format, and CBS looks to be the perfect home for it. CBS doesn’t make bad game shows. They’re very picky, and they see the potential. Be expecting to see this show up this summer.
Edit: By the way, doesn’t the host of the UK version look like Neil a bit? A bit funny.
So after the pilot tapes next week CBS will have the option to move forward with the series or not, but as I said I expect them to. For those not familiar with the show, take a look below. How exciting is this? The prospect of The Cube just got incredibly exciting. Congratulations to Objective TV who found a fantastic place for it. It’s the future of game shows and the best since Who Wants to be a Millionaire.

Oh how appropo, CBS demonstrates not only their openness to having more game-oriented shows in primetime, but well-constructed, well-produced, well-thought out concepts and are willing to take some risks. Props to them.
NBC, I remember the days you were once like this… take notes plz…
WOO HOO! I thought this would be going to ABC, looks like I guessed wrong. Can't wait to see how NPH does as a game show host. And I feel much more comfortable about CBS not airing in-game spoilers than Fox.
I can hardly wait!

Suit up! If NPH makes it, this show will be legen——- wait for it……. DARY!
Has anyone wondered if this is thought of to be the new replacement for "As the World Turns"? I don't think it should be a daytime show and it really shouldn't be, but it is CBS and they are looking for something to take its place. Could this be? Do you know Alex? I do hope it is for primetime. Despite this, this is some of the best news ever! Truly good news for "The Cube"!!!

Granted anything here will be pure speculation, but what are everyone's thoughts on this being a New York based show? Does anyone know if NPH has bigger ties to the east coast that he would want to have it in the Big Apple?

I cannot wait. Everything NPH touches turns to gold.
I agree with Kevin; I don't think this would work as a daytime show. (Personally, I'd rather they revisit $1M Pyramid and put that in daytime.) This is more of a primetime show for certain.

If CBS is getting the Cube, maybe it could pick up a retooled Our Little Genius if FOX doesn't agree on a new date.

I would imagine that this is in primetime. I like CBS. I don't find them stupid. :P
I also like NPH. I have even higher hopes for this show now. XD
Viva la cube!

Finally! Someone takes a shot, and the bring NPH into the fun. Can't wait to see what comes of this. Probably filler for the Survivor-Big Brother gap, but anyway…
One more observation. Separated at birth: Neil Patrick Harris – Philip Schofield (for some reason I keep thinking he's a Patrick)?

Are you sure it's taping next week? According the article on The Wrap, it says only that it is taping "later this year." I believe HIMYM is in production for the next few months.

I agree with Alex. CBS doesn’t make bad game shows, they just put them in crappy time slots (see Power of 10 and Million Dollar Password for proof of that). It looks like CBS has finally hit paydirt with its surprise acquisition of The Cube. Word of advice (and I said this in 2008 with MDP), you have a good thing, don’t blow it.
I agree, my friend. CBS does have a pretty good track record when it comes to game shows. Now, if they can just put it on before Big Brother this summer, I'll be happy.
As for NPH, I see some cross-promotion potential here. While How I Met Your Mother airs, they might show some Cube proms & vice versa. If he did well on MDP, I wouldn't be surprised if he's a full-fledged series host.

Yeah. Word to CBS; when you decide to greenlight The Cube…choose. Your. Time. Slot. Carefully.
Ah – cool!
I like CBS a lot, but I still can't believe that this show has basically fallen into their laps after NBC and FOX did their usual jockeying to be first crap a la Don't Forget the Lyrics and Singing Bee.

Thank you, God. Thanks for involving Neil Patrick Harris. Thanks for CBS picking it up. Now, all I need for my television life to be perfect is to have an American version of Schlag Den Raab.
Damn you. I was going to say that.
