NBC Orders “Perfect 10″ Stunt Game Show

It’s a pretty common joke that if a show is popular somewhere else in the world that America will get the rights, completely dumb it down for any morons out there, and just hope for the best.  And with that I give you NBC’s new game show order: Perfect 10.  Basically you’ll be seeing people complete ten common household chores with 60 seconds to complete each one.  Every game gets harder as it goes along of course, and if you complete all ten you win $1,000,000.  Because nothing is more fun than seeing people scrub the toilet for big money!  We have so much fun doing it every day in our own lives that watching other people do it for money that we can’t have makes it so much better.  Oh hey, I learned sarcasm!

This sounds a lot like England’s new hit game show which has gotten universal praise around these parts and countless others, The Cube.   I mean it sounds almost identical.  In The Cube, you complete seven basic tasks inside a plexiglass cube for £250,000.  In Perfect 10 you complete ten basic household tasks for $1,000,000.  I mean the only way they could have made it more similar is by adding a cube around the person’s house.  I really do have to ask if NBC is just not aware of The Cube whatsoever and are oblivious to the fact that it’s a pretty popular show across the pond which networks in America seem to jump through hoops to get these days; or if they really think watching people sweep the floor for a million dollars is going to be fun at all.

If some American network doesn’t pick up The Cube they are just completely stupid; there’s no debate to that.  I really think it would be an invaluable primetime show to a certain cable network.

Since Fox has a habit of announcing "copycat" shows soon after another networks announce their versions (Trading Places, Nanny 911, Lyrics, The Next Great Champ and 5th Grader come to mind), I could see it announcing a U.S. version of "The Cube" in the coming weeks. I don't have any sources telling me this — it's just a hunch.

Unbelievable. American networks are proving they are creatively bankrupt. Is "Perfect 10" the best they can do? How about a revival of "The Joker's Wild" instead; that would be much better viewing.

And while we're on the subject, a million dollars is far too much of a reward for something this stupid. If a million dollars is the hook that producers and networks think will get folks to watch, they could save themselves money by offering more modest prizes (say, $250,000) and having a more riveting game.

I find it disheartening that, once again, winning big money has to be so easy. When, if ever, will American culture reward those with brains? "College Bowl", anyone?

Because, as we all know, Jeopardy! contestants are total dumbasses who are completely ignorant of the world around them. </obvious_sarcasm_is_obvious>

Or for that matter, a US version of Only Connect (c'mon, PBS!)?

And we wonder why NBC is in FOURTH PLACE…

  • Jordan says:

So let me get this straight – NBC, the network that help start the trend of game shows lately – With hits like Deal or No Deal and 1 vs 100. Some minor misses like Identity and Amne$ia. Are bringing us possibly THE dumbest idea for a game show I have ever heard. This is possibly worse than "Think Like a Cat", its that bad.

But I am going with James – it's odd for NBC to pick up this kind of show without FOX having something around the corner that could be better than this. Let's just hope FOX does gives us what we want – The Cube, and make sure it's not hosted by Mark Thompson (Requesting maybe a Fox News Pundit like Sean Hannity or Shepard Smith to host this show)

But as far as "Perfect 10" is concerned – i'd rather fold laundry than watch contestants do it.

Great! There goes my namesake, down the tubes. Bah! Can't NBC do anything right?

  • Craig says:

Or better yet, change a light bulb(could be done blindfolded for $1M, who knows?).

Come on Fox, what are you waitin' for, Glee to sputter? Give me my Cube! NOW!

Breaking news: FOX have picked up The Cube.

  • juliaz12345 says:

This is good news. Then again…it's Fox…so, I'm leery. What we don't know is if this is for primetime or syndication. I'm thinking primetime.

  • Brig Bother says:

Well it sounds as though it's being made by the British production team, so it might turn out alright. It's almost certainly primetime.

  • Adam says:

Now why did NBC NOT pick this up? Also, why is NBC overlooking the Money List? Is there ever going to be a hit good enough to get NBC out of fourth?

  • Adam says:

By that I mean Why did NBC overlook the Cube, and let Fox take it?

  • Adam says:

There's gotta be a way to save NBC. Is there? It is so badly run. I can still never understand why they found it necessary to cancel 1 vs 100, even though it had great ratings.

Another example of "Must Miss TV"

NBC is in fourth place for these reasons.

    1) They had a hit with Deal or NO Deal- but what did they do. The fourth season they started showing what the board was going to look like before we saw it. Showing too much during the program and it ruins the mystery. Also the only good things they tried that i like was different was Deal Wheel, Winner Takes All. The million dollar mission is one of the things that killed it. the first season was when Deal was at it’s best and if it wasn’t broke then don’t fix it too much ( with the exception of Deal Wheel, Winner Takes All) also the pace started getting much slower and it was ticking people off. I know my grandmother stopped watching it because of the pace.

    2) They had a hit with 1 VS 100- Fridays night at 8/7 was to me the best hour on TV for NBC. Then they had Las Vegas and Law and order after that which i felt helped there fridays. They kept only showing few episodes and then putting some other show in its place to where it bombed ( Identity, Amensia) I guess NBC doesn’t care about there ratings and so they will stay in 4th place until they hire someone who cares about the network. This may sound crazy and I may not work in the TV business but I actually think i can do better than who they have now. If i would have ran NBC first off 1 VS 100 would have stayed on Fridays until the ratings dipped really low. Deal Or No Deal would have pretty much stayed like season one with the exception i would have thrown in the deal wheel and the winner takes all edition. Deal would have been on Mondays and Wed although yes the 4th season it was up against House, DWTS. Deal would have at least stayed on Wed at 8/7 central and i would have added it on Fridays at 9/8 after 1 VS 100. The two hour block of 1 VS 100 and Deal would have been fridays and then Law and Order after it. So NBC if you do find a hit this year here’s a piece of Advice DON”T SCREW WITH THE TIMESLOT and leave it where it’s at . You also had a hit with SVU on Tuesdays and you should have left it there.

    • Craig says:

Those are good reasons, my friend. Now why didn't I think of that? Silly me, I was trying to hammer at something like that myself, but it never stayed where I wanted it to.

And if you're gonna do this Perfect 10 thing, do what you did to Face the Ace & put it on Saturday nights so I don't have to even THINK about looking at it. That's usually the best night of the week for me as a sports fan.

  • Jay Temple says:

No, they did the light bulb game in Poland. It was a team game.

<NOT making fun of actual Poles, just the fact that the jokes have been around so long>

  • captparis1 says:

So, NBC thinks Warioland for million bucks, is going to be a hit?! Good luck & I wish you the best, regardless.

  • bead says:

Just an update….this Perfect 10 game is made up of games such as cup stacking and "quarters", etc…it is actually quite daunting. How do I know? I tried out for it two weeks ago. The point is that the games involve household items not chores as you wrote. I watched people completely fall apart under the pressure of a camera and a couple of people cheering. I did not and am hoping to hear something in the next few weeks.
