Tonight NBC is begging to give away the million dollars with a 13-$1,000,000 case game of Deal or No Deal. I’d just like to note one thing. Executive Producer Scott St. John has said that they will only go to 13 cases with $1,000,000; and this is true. However, this does not necessarily mean they will stop the mission. After that, NBC’s new stunt show My Dad is Better Than Your Dad debuts. Post your thoughts about the show here.

Guy: If I didn’t have a 100% board, I totally would have taken the deal like she did. But on the topic of the M$M, you know what I would really like? I’m sure that especially when it comes down to a 50/50 shot at picking the right case, someone will eventually win the million. BUT! What if, in the random determination of what goes into what case, we could know what would have been the single million-dollar case if it had been a normal game? I would honestly like to know what a contestant would have won normally, and the excitement would have only trebled if they picked *the* million-dollar case.
Now on to MDiBTYD…
First off, it has a terrible acronym. Moot point though.
I must admit, within the first minute of the show, I lost a bit of faith, since the game was taking place in “Dad Stadium.” So they’re layering the hokey on pretty thick from the get-go.
Two things I really liked about what I saw tonight… No spoilers in the commercial lead-outs, and (almost) no cliffhanger endings.
I noticed a lot of the camera shots in the middle of the games when the dads played solo (like the desk-smashing game) were on the kids and their cheering and screaming. I don’t know what to make of that, but I wrote it down, so it was something significant I noticed. (In case you can’t tell, I’m writing this based on notes I scribbled down during the show, hence the absolute lack of flow in this post.)
Something that bothered me: The host seemed a bit too much like Phil Moore of “Nick Arcade” “fame.” (Notoriety?)
I liked the “home” decor of the show. From the garages, to the grills they used as buzzer podiums… very nice touches, there.
Wow, it’s taken me this long to discuss the gameplay? The games really were good. They do have a creative mix of physical and strategicable, and I like that. I do find a bit of fault in the “kid buzzes, dad answers” part of the trivia round… Because all that really is is the first kid to buzz lets their dad have ten seconds to think. It’s gotta be faster than that. Maybe let the kids buzz in before all the answers appear?
Minus five points for calling a tennis racket and a frying pan “state of the art military gear”… unless that was a joke.
Prizes? Not that bad, I’d say. First off, it’s cool that the kids at least get guaranteed prizes no matter what. And at $10k per question at the end, that’s not too bad… although I’d like to see a bonus for all five right. Maybe $5k per question, which doubles to $50k? No wait, we already had that in “The Singing Bee…”
And that’s all I had on my sheet… Generally, I feel rather optimistic about this show. It has a very nice family feel, and could possibly last for a good while. Cheers to NBC on another nice job!

I see the show as Double Dare meets Fear Factor…
The “My Dad is Braver” tasks are strictly Fear Factor
The Trivia Round reminds me of 1 vs 100 but with buzzers
But the End Game is very awesome, and the closing line “My Dad is Better Than Your Dad” has that “I am NOT smarter than a 5th grader” mentality to it.

I agree with most of the comments above. I watched and will probably watch again, but not gonna get upset if I miss an episode.
Here’s something that stuck me as I was watching this ‘Mark Burnett’ show…
It’s been noted before that Jeff Probst may ‘eventually’ leave Survivor. Do you think Dan Cortese (sp?) could be a replacement for Jeff? It almost seemed to me tonight as if this was an audition… (or maybe I’m just crazy or tired?)
Either way…
The good: clever games, not many cliffhangers, IMO the Host (some may disagree… but I think he relates well to the kids)
The bad: trivia aspect (kids buzzing in), bonus round prize scale (not so much bad, just needs tweaked)
That’s all.

Ugh. I don’t think you could pay me to watch “MDIBTYD”. Seems like a completely retarded concept to me.

I didn’t get to see mdibtyd becuase on the way walking home from the store I slipped on some ice and hit my head on the ground. I’m alright before anyone asks, an advil and a ice pack later and I’m just a little groggy so if parts of this post make no sense I apologize. I did go to the ER just to be safe and the doctor told me I was lucky I didn’t have a concussion.
but back to the topic at hand, I watched some of DoND and then got bored and went to the store. having 13 million dollar cases is TOO much 2 is okay, even 5 is tolerable. but a 50/50 chance but at least this has made for a comedy thing since despite his best attempts Howie can’t give away the million.

i have studied the gameplay and i can tell you, there are not 1..
not 3..
not 5..
not even 10..
but TWENTY-TWO reasons to keep playing!
1. you “know” it’s in 8.
2: we heard some 22s from the crowd, so at least save yourself NOW and win it after throwing it away earlier!
3: 22 and 8 are significant cases in DOND history.
4: about 200 people haven’t won it so far.
5: britney and michelle have also been that close.
6: the offers have been mean!
7: it’s less than $491K!
8: it’s less than britney in the same situation!
9: it’s not that difficult to remove the entire left side.
10: the banker’s “LOSER” sign.
11: all of the people who sold the 1M already have said the same or similar things.
12: 9/10 of the support says NO.
13: the lone dissenter isn’t screaming his heart out.
14: that dissenter isn’t the husband.
15: he earlier said “ride the horse till it falls”, and now that it has fallen, i’m still not hearing a “DEAL!”
16: do i hear any “for her, take this offer” spiels?
17: so far, the chance of you not having the 1M combined with the other 11 is about 1.5%.
18: even $200 is eight times what wesley won risking the whole thing!
19: $200 may be less than demetres, but the bench is telling a whole different story!
20: if you lose the whole thing, you’re not going to be stuck on the couch with a husband who endorsed the choice.
21: no one will ever have this chance, or this amount of spirit, for a long time, if any time!
22: IF A 90% CONSENSUS, HALF THE BOARD BEING 1M, AND THIS MUCH CONFIDENCE WON’T GIVE AWAY THE 1M, WHAT WILL??!
