Morning Buzz for October 18, 2011

Good morning, everyone.  Here are your morning updates for Tuesday, October 18th, 2011.

*SPEED’s newest game show, Pumped, has a debut date.  We discussed it a bit before but the general idea of the show is that the host, Greg Fitzsimmons, travels to gas stations quizzing people to win up to $1,800.  It’s honestly Cash Cab but in a gas station.  Pumped will debut November 17th at 9:00PM ET.  We’ll see how this one goes.

*Discovery is casting for a new game show.  The show, hosted by Mythbusters‘ Jamie and Adam, sees teams of five compete to create various Rube Goldberg contraptions, like the board game Mousetrap.  If you like Saw it’s like that, just without all the blood.  Winning teams collect $3,000.  If you want to get involved and possibly play, click here.

*HBO is developing a dark comedy based on the genre. W. Merritt Johnson is writing a script aimed to star actor Don Johnson which is about a suicidal game show host.  The series will follow his life, trying to cope with what it’s become, and trying to deal with his life at home at work.

*ITV’s The Chase had a funny moment that’s been making the rounds over the last few hours.  Take a look below.

*We’ve managed to scrape up some information regarding ABC and ITV’s newest quiz show The Exit List from Embassy Row.  When it was taken to press it was said the show involves a maze.  A maze may be a little bit of a stretch.  It’s more of a grid.  It’s not a bad idea, but it needs some work for it to be remotely interesting.  I can’t wait to see the changes they make.  Basically there are forty-some rooms in a grid.  You go to a room and answer a multiple choice question to win the cash in it ($1,000 to $250,000).  When you’ve banked all you want one of your team stays inside the grid and has to rattle off a list of all the right answers you’ve given so far.  It’s not bad but it doesn’t seem hard, the logistics of the various cash in the room creates a giant problem, and there’s no real logical winning point for the game.  It’s just going until you’re happy.  If you’re happy winning five figures and you just need to memorize 4 or 5 answers, it’s the some of easiest cash you’ve ever made.  I look forward to seeing what changes were made from the pitch film to the pilot.

*Internet game shows have been plentiful recently.  Another one has started.  This one is called Money Break and the game is simple: just answer a few questions against a clock to win cash prizes.  They’re offering $2,000 collectively through each episode so you can pick up some nice cash.  Click here to play weekdays at 1:00PM ET.  Don’t forget that we will begin looking for contestants for our newest original game show, War of the Words, soon.

Interesting. There has already been a gameshow host based comedy drama in the UK called Bob Martin, played by Michael Barrymore. It was quite popular – several series as I recall.

The Exit List, eh? I’m not sure if it’ll be even half as interesting as 101 Ways to Leave a Game Show, but we’ll see. Knowing ABC, they’ll find some way to ramp up the excitement of this upcoming game show. :)
