Morning Buzz for July 27, 2011
Good morning. Sorry about the lack of updates yesterday. I was gone for a majority of the day and didn’t get a chance to check anything. However, we’ve got a few things of interest to tell you about to start off the day.
*The pilot for Secret Fortune, CBS’s adaptation of the hit BBC One primetime lottery quiz show, recently taped. We’re looking to find any information about the pilot we can. However, a blog post was linked in a previous comment section regarding a couple going through run throughs with host Donny Osmond. According to the couple, the prizes will range from $100 to $1,000,000. The original British version ranges from £100 to £100,000. Hopefully we can see this one get to air. It’s a good quiz show with an element of luck.
*The most recent live celebrity edition of ITV’s Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, carrying a “School’s Out” theme, did very well for the network. In response they have rushed another live celebrity edition to air. A “Soap Star Special” will air live this August. The live editions see celebrities play the game for charity. Half the money they win goes to charity and half goes into a prize pot, and at the end of the show one viewer is called up to answer a question to win it all. The last home viewer won £65,000.
*BBC America has green lit its first original game show. British talk show host Graham Norton has been selected to host Would You Rather?. The comedic game show will tape in New York City and will feature top American comedians competing. 13 episodes will be shot.
*More Millionaire tape dates have been announced. Click here to get tickets. They let you do electronic tickets now so that’s a lot easier.

Finally, BBC America is airing game shows again. We haven’t seen any on there since they aired “The Enemy Within, Dog Eat Dog and Weakest Link” a few years back. I can’t wait to see Would You Rather, if it works out maybe NBC can pick it up and have Howie Mandel host.
…Why American comedians? If it’s going to have a British comedian host, and be produced for a channel all about British television, wouldn’t it make more sense to have the likes of Jimmy Carr and David Mitchell on it?
this is the same network that’s running “X-Files” and “Star Trek” ad-nauseam these days, that’s how British the channel is.
sounds like secret fortune might be a good one i would like to see it, i would of like to see the show that was a team triva one that ABC/NBC dropped i think it was called million dollar mind game
It was ABC who did Million Dollar Mind Game. The series was picked up, but it never made it to air as of yet.
Thankfully, Secret Fortune has a top prize of $1,000,000. For a while there, I thought CBS would make the top prize $500,000 – like they were considering for the top prize of the American version of The Cube.
Million Dollar Mind Game… ABC has the episodes taped from what Alex said before, I think… … I’m guessing ABC is holding onto it until trivia quiz game shows become more popular over the stunt-based game shows like Wipeout and 101 Ways…
