Morning Buzz for July 18, 2011
We’re back after a long weekend. Not a lot of big stuff going on right now, so here’s a Morning Buzz update for you.
*The Canadian version of Cash Cab had a major, tragic accident over the weekend. The famed taxi cab, which gives contestants cash for knowing trivia questions, struck and killed a man in Vancouver on Saturday. The 61 year old man died just before midnight. It should be noted that the show was not filming at the time and the host of the show was not the driver. The accident happened after the show completed filming and a producer was driving. No charges have been filed yet. Click here for more.
*Who Wants to be a Millionaire is set to tape for their tenth syndicated season. The long running quiz show, still hosted by Meredith Vieira, has listed their first tape date and people living near or close to New York City, or people planning on visiting, can start requesting tickets. The tickets page can be reached by clicking here. Only one date is listed as of this writing but more will be listed soon. It’s a good time. Check it out if you’re there.
*Speaking of Millionaire, ITV’s newest live edition was broadcast this past Friday. Someone actually made it into the final giant money tier.
*Planning on seeing a taping of Let’s Make A Deal soon? If you’ve seen the show then you know at the end of each episode the cast goes through the audience asking people for various items for small amounts of cash. Be sure to follow the show’s Twitter account which gives you a preview as to what to bring. Smart idea if you’ll be there.

At first I was confused, because Canada’s version of “Cash Cab” has normally filmed in Toronto. Prior to this story breaking, I never heard anything of the show filming on the west coast.
It’s not the same guy that hosts the one in Toronto as the one in Vancouver. Toronto’s cab is modelled after a Diamond Taxi. Those are the only versions in Canada.
Canada has its own version of Cash Cab? Wow. Then again, Canada usually is pretty cheap when it comes to game shows. Except L’Oeuf Dor in Quebec. Now THAT game show gave out some pretty large wins. A few weeks ago, a woman took home $500,000.
Pretty awesome, let me tell you.
That’s because the Canadian currency is cheaper than ours, so the shows there doesn’t have the budget that U.S. shows have.
and L’oeuf D’or is a lottery show, and in that sense $500,000 is actually cheap for a lottery show.
and Canadian shows in recent years have started having bigger budgets: Qubit and Inside The Box had a $10,000 top prize (although it was tough to win) Our version of Cash Cab has the same payouts as the US version (pre-after dark) but the pacing is much slower so not as many questions are asked. But we’ve come a long way from shows like Definition and Headline Hunters giving prizes of less than $200.
Also, tonight is the premiere of the revived “Family BrainSurge” on Nickelodeon at 8PM. I can’t wait because I rally liked the show when it premiered in 2009.
