Morning Buzz for August 25, 2011

Good morning.  I hope you all lived through the Great East Coast Earthquake (more like an earth-jostle?) of 2011.  And I hope you’re all safe during the Hurricane Irene conditions.  We have a few small stories from all over the world to kick off your Thursday morning.

*We announced yesterday that former talk show host George Lopez is going to be on The Price is Right in September to present a Showcase.  We’ve got another guest, and this one is interesting.  Rapper Snoop Dogg will appear on the show.  He taped his appearance yesterday.  This should be fun.  I got to meet him briefly when he was a celebrity guest on Who Wants to be a Millionaire‘s tenth anniversary on ABC, and he was great there.  Can’t wait to see this one.  I’ve not listened to his music nor do I really enjoy rap, but come on.  It’s Snoop Dogg.  You can’t not like this.

*Let’s Make A Deal is bringing back an element of the past updated for 2011-2012.  If you watched Deal during the 80′s you may remember their special feature “Door Four”.  It was essentially a giant wheel one randomly selected audience member played.  The current CBS version hosted by Wayne Brady looks to be bringing it back under the title “Go For A Spin”.  I can almost guarantee it won’t be under the same format but it’s cool to see them going back to past ideas and updating them.  This current version of the show has been really good at that.

*ITV’s big money event game show Red or Black has a debut date.  The series will bow September 3rd and run through September 10th.  The series sees a large number of contestants predict the outcome of various stunts.  Eventually one person will survive and, every night, that person has a shot at winning £1,000,000 by answering just one question from a roulette wheel: red or black?  Here’s a trailer ITV provided. You know we’ll be covering it once the series debuts.

*As previously reported, the Ghost Hunters will be making a repeat appearance this season on Who Wants to be a Millionaire.  In exchange Meredith Vieira made an appearance on the SyFy series.   Check out a picture of her appearance below, courtesy of Valleycrest Productions Ltd.

Did we forget something?  Let us know.

I have to say that the preview for “Red or Black” is one of the most epic clips I have ever watched.

I can think of one thing you forgot – The Hub has released its September 2011 program information at http://press.discovery.com/media/ugc/highlights/The_Hub_September_2011_Highlights.pdf

In terms of game shows, The Game Of Life and Scrabble Showdown have preview episodes on September 3 and officially premiere on September 17. Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? reruns join The Hub’s schedule on September 19. There’s more information in the PDF.

Good to see a couple more game shows on the air, and good to see the Hub continuing producing shows as well.

A little off topic, but reading the Hub’s September program information, I see that Batman The Animated Series and Goosebumps are coming to the channel next month.

Personally, I think Batman The Animated Series is a great pick up for that channel, and I think a lot of non game show and game show fans alike will be glad to see that show on TV once again.

  • David says:

I could possibly see Red or Black on ABC with Greeny and Golic hosting.

  • Jared Oswald says:

I think you did forget something Alex. Today is Monty Hall’s 90th Birthday.

  • I love it that LMAD is bringing back Door Number Four for the current run. It will be interesting to see how they do it for this version.

0:16, man jumpin on a kiddie pool, was this on American’s Got Talent before? LOL Anyway, I glad the wheel on LMAD is back. Even the next season won’t broadcast in HD, at least we got something to look forward to. But looking at the red arrow & dollar values not upside down, will they have to used the arrow to spin the wheel? It kinda remind me of Match Game 90 wheel.

  • BG says:

The wheel and match board look awesome but for some reason, I kinda wish LMaD wouldn’t use names for its games. They seem hokey and uninspired (Go For a Spin, Movin On Up).
