I freely admit, I get a kick out of watching the attention whores go on this show, humiliate themselves, and then wind up losing it all. They want to make those decisions, they deserve what they get.

The Moment of Truth is one of those very rare game shows I show emotion for because this is reality to its core. It's shocking to hear the questions sometimes but you know like many contestants have mentioned, "It's nice to finally get that off my chest.", or "That's been haunting me all my life and I'm glad I finally know." This show also makes me think that yes you could potentially destroy your marriage, but in the end isn't it better to know the facts are finally out there instead of bottling them up for the rest of your life? That's just unhealthy but of course marriages can always be brought back together with some counceling and therapy. As I'm thinking about the next episode, I might just be ashamed to be a guy after this, but at least I'm NOT like him.
Also it may not be my place to say this, but in my opinion those that don't like this show just might be exposing a weak conscience somewhere because after all it IS a show that makes you examine yourselves.

Not strictly on the topic of this thread - but did anyone see the (very quick) title card for The Mole appear in one of the adbreaks for LOST this evening?

By the way, on the Colbert Report Wednesday night, Colbert gave a "Tip of the Hat" to this show. Funny segment (He also made a joke about how FF hasn't be a family show since Richard Karn left: no one in the audiance got the joke, but I did)

I just came across a clip on youtube of the uk version and Jerry Springer (who hosts their version for those of you who didn't know) and on it he explains that the contestants signed a contract agreeing that for the purposes of the game, an answer that the ploygraph determines to be a lie is a lie in the eys of the game. and the same goes for a "true" answer. so that kinda works with neville's argument but I agree B-W, (another flaw) lie detectors are not 100% accurate, I think I heard somewhere it's something around 75% accurate.

FYI, the clip is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8X3fINcUKk&feature=related for those who are interested.

My distaste for this show doesn't really have that much to do with the idea that it's "trashy" programming, but more with the fact that it uses an unverifiable standard for determining "truth." Lie detectors are not 100% accurate. If a show is going to accuse someone of lying, or if a "game show" is going to give or deny prize money on that basis, they ought to have proof, and lie detector simply doesn't cut it.

If it weren't for the fact that Moment of Truth is now up against Big Brother (which I am ashamed that I watch) I would watch it each week. I find it entertaining that people who KNOW what the questions are will put themselves in these situations. As shown in the clip, Mark says, "I think you know what's coming next, and you still want to go on," or something to that effect. This goes to show that some people either want or need the money badly or want to out themselves on a scandal or two and get financially rewarded at the same time. Obviously, if you've really got nothing to hide, you won't make it as a contestant because they won't pick you. I think that, just like in "WarGames," the only winning move is not to play. But, when people WILLINGLY put themselves in that position, I don't see anything wrong with it.

Alex, I dont see how you can hate Jerry Springer and Maury and like this show, as far as I'm considered they're the same thing. the most obvious proof is how the audience hoots and hollers at the more outrageous questions and shocking answers and in this clip when they booed her supporter for using the button (FYI, if I were Mark Walberg I think I would have walked out on the show at that point.). I think this is a bad sign of society in general that people like seeing others destroy their lives. as I said before no amount of money is worth opening up things like that, and in games like this the money no longer matters which is bad because when people win large amounts of money you want the excitement to be there.

This is trash TV to the extreme all done in poor, very poor taste, my prediction: sooner or later they'll go too far with one person and he or she will committ suicide, then there will be a huge scandal,

Now I'm not saying that the girl in that clip was a good person or not, but she isnt someone who was so horrible that everyone she knows and anyone she'll ever meet will know all those secrets that she revealed for the rest of her life. Especially where in the end they get no money for all that? Now when the husband and wife are trying to get their relationship back on track, if they do, they have that extra burden on them that they didnt win any money. As Mark said, there are some things better left unsaid: But all those questions are better left off TV if we're talking about real people's lives here.
