MLB Network Orders Baseball Quiz Show “Baseball IQ”

Do you think you know everything there is to know about baseball?  You can test your skills, and see others do it also for up to $45,000 for charity, on MLB Network’s upcoming quiz show Baseball IQ.  This is the first game show ordered by the network in their  three year history.  Baseball IQ is hosted by Matt Vasgersian who has a long history of hosting game shows.  He previously hosted Fox Sports Net’s Sports Geniuses and both The World Series of Blackjack and Celebrity Blackjack for GSN.  The series will debut January 24th at 9:00PM ET.

“Baseball fans are passionate about the sport’s statistics, and launching ‘Baseball IQ’ is a way for us to expand our offseason programming lineup to let viewers test their baseball knowledge,” said MLB Network president Tony Petitti. “The premise of ‘Baseball IQ’ is a natural extension of how fans talk about baseball at home or during a game by putting a current story, player or moment into historical context.”

Each episode’s winning team’s charity will win $5,000.  The championship is for an additional $25,000.  $15,000 will go to the runner up.  From the press release these are the people taking place.

American League: Shane Demmitt of the Angels, David Nosti of the Athletics, Howard Starkman of the Blue Jays, Jeff Stocker of the Indians, Tony Blengino of the Mariners, Jay Moskowitz of the Orioles, Chuck Morgan of the Rangers, Shawn Hoffman of the Rays, Billy Broadbent of the Red Sox, Curt Nelson of the Royals, Ron Wade of the Tigers, Craig Nordquist of the Twins, Dan Fabian of the White Sox and Brian Richards of the Yankees.

National League: Benjamin Coburn of the Astros, Mark Lehman of the Braves, Jeff Hibicke of the Brewers, Brian Finch of the Cardinals, Ryan Balogh of the Cubs, Josh DeFamio of the D-backs, Seth Bluman of the Dodgers, Greg Marinec of the Giants, Dan Noffsinger of the Marlins, Ben Baumer of the Mets, Samuel Mondry-Cohen of the Nationals, Fred Gerson of the Padres, Jay McLaughlin of the Phillies, Steve Morse of the Pirates, Rich Linville of the Reds and Aaron Heinrich of the Rockies.

  • Wow, they certainly brought out the big stars for this show. Hope these people were selected for their baseball knowledge.

  • Ben says:

Hey, it’s the offseason, and you can only analyze hot-stove proceeedings and rerun old games so many times before it starts to become monotonous. This could be a lot of fun, if they do it right.

  • James E. Parten says:

What a flock of owls!! You see these names, and you go “Whoooo. . .?”

  • Doug Morris says:

When I saw Matt was tapped to be this show’s host, four words came to mind. “Right man, right situation.”

  • Chris says:

Matt V. would be great… from his other shows and gambling titles (WSoBJ, Poker Superstars, HUPC) it should be right up his alley…

The players are more than likely

    A) Who told their agents to get lost…
    B) Actually know baseball history, and not just in it to hit the multi-millions like the majority of the top tier players are.

  • Chris says:

The guys in the show aren’t players, they’re front office personnel for the team they’re representing in the show.

I think I’ll enjoy this, it seems like it’ll be nice and simple themed quiz show.
