“Millionaire” Nominated for Daytime Emmy, Plus More News
We’re back from the 2009 Game Show Awards, and we’ve got lots of updates to show you once we get the OK. But first we have some extremely delayed Who Wants to be a Millionaire? news, and I apologize to you (and to ABC) for the delay. First off, a big congratulations goes to the entire cast and crew of the show which was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award. Not only did did the show get nominated, but host Meredith Vieira is also up for an award. She won an Emmy in 2005 for the show and was the second female in game show history to win.
This coming week on the syndicated version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, Jim Cramer of CNBC’s Mad Money is going to be the expert for the lifeline Ask the Expert. We’ll see how much money he can cost a contestant, since he did a pretty good job of that on CNBC, after all.
The part many of you will be interested in is the audition process. New York auditions will be beginning tomorrow, Monday, May 18th, and it’ll continue through the end of May. Remember, not only are you up for the daytime auditions but you may be selected for the 10th anniversary episodes that will be airing on ABC in August, hosted by Regis Philbin. You just have to pass a multiple choice quiz and wow the producers to get a chance in the seat and be a millionaire. Click here to learn more. Good luck! Get on the show and make us proud.

Does this mean that the phone game is gone for good?
Alex, come on.. how about we keep it clean here, like Cramer caused this downturn, there is millions of blame to go around for members of congress, the previous administation and others, but need we heep it on someone who just like us got smuckered by this “economic disaster” as we’re renaming things now adays….
On a serious note, any word on Millionaire clearing in more markets this season? 2008-9 saw many many markets go gameshow-less on all channels in the market, minus the main 3 (Feud/J!/WoF).
Re: Chad’s question
At this point, no one knows for sure what the status for phone qualifications for Regis WWTBAM will be. The best option right now is to learn from the auditions about whether there will be a phone or online qualification model for the 10th anniversary shows, as well as the traditional audition process. Hopefully, someone who attends the auditions, or who knows someone who did, will let BuzzerBlog and other news sites and message board know what they found out.
If they were holding auditions when I was in New York 2 weeks ago, I would’ve done it, but another trip to NY just for a remotely possible chance to get on doesn’t seem worth it…
Oh, and no love for the other daytime Emmy nominees? Jeopardy and Cash Cab I believe are the other two best game show nominees, with Howie Mandel, Alex Trebek, and Ben Bailey for best host. TPIR got nods for Makeup and Costume Design too, IIRC…
