“Million Dollar Password” Videos

CBS has been posting a few preview videos of Million Dollar Password on YouTube, so here’s a small preview.  I saw some of the debut episode and while it’s not bad, it could definitely use some work.  I still don’t think the show works in a million dollar format and I just didn’t feel the drama they tried to squeeze out of you.

Well, I know I’m looking forward to this. :) If drama is forced, what I usually do is tune it out and wait for the game. I would guess there would be a pacing problem with the interviews and jokes between rounds and such, but… well, if it’s tolerable, I’ll live with it.

It kinda looks anticipating. I’ll give my overall reaction on Sunday.

I, too have felt that PASSWORD was never meant to offer a $1M payoff. Thanks ot Alex, it’s nice to see I’m not alone in those feelings.

Yes, I’ll watch the premiere installment. But fair warning: if the only outstanding thing about this version is Betty White*, then MILLION $ PASSWORD will be in a “world of hurt,” and it’ll reaffirm the perception with Fremental, er, uh, Fremantle’s incompetence with all but two (maybe three) of the Goodson-Todman game shows they now own.

  • DENo1MatchGameFan says:

I don’t know about ‘worst game show ever’ – “Match Game ’98″ still takes it for me! Anyway, I can’t wait to see Betty White do her thing on the show – looks like her wit is just as strong today as it’s always been. Hopefully she’ll have something nice to say about Dick Martin, and Bert Convy, as they made “Password Plus” and “Super Password” just as memorable to me. I’ve watch the ‘France/French’ clip of Dick on “PP” at least five or six times over the past week!

I’m going into it with high expectations. I’m also going into it remembering that the show hasn’t been on in 20 years, so the average viewer (esp. those in that 18-34 demo) might not remember Password as fondly as your diehard game show fan.

If Fremantle can give a small shoutout to the old-school Password fans, but also make this suitable watching for 2008, kinda like they did with the Game Show Marathon, then I’ll be happy. I’m really pushing for this one to succeed, and would like to think they won’t pull a “Temptation” here.

I’m looking forward to it myself. Already set my TiVo for it. And, Brandon, I’m with you on the thinking they won’t pull a “Temptation”, they really killed a great show like Sale of the Century by retooling it and messing it up. If Fremantle was smart, they would sell all of the Goodson-Todman game shows to someone who would actually make it better, like Sony or Fox.

  • Mike says:

FOX? You mean the same FOX which has brought us such gems as The Moment of Truth, Who’s Your Daddy?, Joe Millionaire, The Littlest Groom, and other high-quality game/reality shows? That FOX? Whatever you’re smoking, devares, please pass some of it this way.

DENo1MatchGameFan, I don’t know if she’d mention them like that, becuase these were taped sometime in advance, and for those who have argued about the joking around and chatter distracting, I think that’s what made the original password so great. look for the ep. with Johnny Carson and Pat Carroll, that was a classic, even though they only got through 2 compelte games and lightning rounds. You gotta do some joking and chatter becuase the game is so simplistic it could get repetitive after a while.

Seeing Betty White back on password, will be a huge treat, remember she told viewers on the finale of Super Password “the phoenix will rise again” it only took 19 years. plus, if the show is successful enough to last until 2010, and Betty’s still around then, she will be the first celeb. in the 7-decade club. and guessing on how she did on pyramid a few years ago. she might be a step slower but she can still match wits the best. and FYI, she used that joke: “what are you doing Regis” on Donny on Pyramid as well.

early prediction: semi-successful but it’s gonna irritate the hardcore fans. and like Abric I’ve give an official review Sunday

  • Sam says:

Yeah, I remember that there was a lot of joking around. I didn’t really “tune it out” per se, but I’m sure that there would be a LOT of it going on in MDP, more than we’d like.

  • DDELE7 says:

Fremantle may have screwed up with Match Game, Card Sharks, and Temptation, but you never know.
Million Dollar Password could do well. When your bringing back a show like password or revamping it, do like what the price is right is doing, make it a modern classic. make it fun, and if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

anyways, i have a feeling Million Dollar Password will be good. CBS had success with Power of 10, until they stupidly put it up against American Idol (another Fremantle show). And with TPIR’s million dollar shows. Lets see what happens.
