“Million Dollar Money Drop” Gets Facebook Adaptation
The timing of this is pretty funny. Fox’s long cancelled quiz show Million Dollar Money Drop will be getting its own Facebook adaptation. It’s in the programming phase right now so no word of impeding release. The company behind it is iWin, who did the good adaptations of Deal or No Deal, 1 VS 100, the upcoming $100,000 Pyramid, and the massively popular Family Feud.
It comes as no shock but the look and style of the show will resemble the cancelled Fox version (cancelled much like all the other versions around the world that followed our model), not the more popular and still-on-the-air other Europea looks, so I wouldn’t be expecting this to show up in Europe, sadly. The format, no matter where you’ve seen it, is basically the same. You’re given $1,000,000 in stacks of cash. There are four drop zones with answers on them in front of you. You have to place the full million on the drop zones. You can split the cash as you desire, but one zone must be clear at all times. If you can survive until the ending you win whatever cash you have left. The biggest American win was $300,000.
Why is this funny? To start last week Fox announced that the show was cancelled as if we were all on edge if it was coming around or not. I think we all figured. But also I really doubt many remember this show let alone have enough positive feelings about it to want to play it for extended periods of time. I can understand stuff like 1 VS 100, despite its cancellation because that seems to bounce between being on the air or online regularly for the past few years, not to mention how interactive it is. Money Drop is as cut and dry as it comes. Having said that, iWin does a great job with these games and I look forward to seeing what they can do with this.

I personally am disgusted that FOX cancelled this show. I really liked it. It had me on the edge of my seat and made my heart really pound. Im glad though this is going to be a game. I really liked this show and I can’t wait to play it. I think they should bring this show back. i think they should do another week long event and then the night or two nights that do the best they should put it on there.
MDMD is a great show, It’s what FOX did to it that made it bad: Aspiring actors instead of genuine contestants, unnecessarily extended dramatic pauses. Realistic contestants and just getting the show moving would make the show better.
In cancelling Million Dollar Money Drop, FOX cancelled the 2nd best Game Show they’ve aired in the past 11 YEARS. And GREED, which was THE BEST Game Show FOX had ever aired, was also cancelled after just 1 season.
The people running FOX just simply DO NOT KNOW how to produce a good long-lasting game show, and if they do produce a good one, they find some way to mess it up so that they can cancel it quickly and stop giving away large amounts of money in cash and prizes.
Fire the guy who makes the broadcasting decisions at the FOX network!!
How come no one’s ever attempted to revive Greed?
I agree with everyone’s comments, and I hope this Facebook game becomes a good enough hit to spawn a revival soon enough. If so, I want NBC to air the revival. The show could’ve done well. It had a great format, gone wrong, thanks to the kind of contestants they used. In fact, I e-mail the programming director of Fox affiliate, WSVN in Miami, with words I wanted to make clear. In my message, I stated “We Americans are NOT that dumb”. I also said that it was either Fox or Endemol that made it this way.
I also wanted to try their online game, but I live in the East Coast, and didn’t get one damn chance at it. Screw Fox, not only for that, but what will ever come of that couple that was supposed to have been given a second chance? I’m hoping they’ll sue.
MDMD was not as good as people are making it out to be. The concept is great and like Alex said in the article, only the Europeans have pulled it off well. There was just so much wrong with the show, not to mention the infamous scandal after just a few shows, made it an instant one hit wonder. People aren’t going to want to see it on TV again after having so much trouble with it in the first place. I like iWin’s games on Facebook but I don’t think there’s much they can do with this show’s format to keep people coming back for more.
I like the idea of reviving Greed and getting Chuck Woolery to do it again or maybe Jerry Springer. I also don’t think a twice a week airing hurts either. Greed moved along at a good pace. when the game of Million Dollar Money Drop is up I want to play it just to see how good i would be at . Im disappointed there won’t be a PC or DVD of this.
