“Million Dollar Money Drop” Adds Interactive Game for Season Finale

We’ve had a lot of criticism regarding the Americanization of Million Dollar Money Drop, but at least they seem to be seeing complaints, seeing how the more popular versions of the show do their games, and bringing in elements to improve.  Many shows say, “Screw it,” but they aren’t yet at least.  They’ve already sped up the game considerably which has helped it tremendously.  Now the Fox game show will be adding an interactive game.  You’ll now be able to place your virtual million dollars on the drops and play along with the contestants.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the game is nearly a straight port, it seems, of the Channel 4 game for The Million Pound Drop (which returns tonight).  You’ll need to go to the show’s page to play along, by clicking here. The Fox version isn’t live so you won’t have Kevin interacting with you, but the biggest winners will get on the virtual leaderboard.  In our chat room for the show we had, throughout the debut week, thousands of people entering and playing along with Money Drop, so this is a smart move.  Sadly it’s the season finale next week (Tuesday at 9:00PM), but if you’re a fan of the show I’d get to the online game and play it next Tuesday while you can.

Want to play the game today? The British version comes back tonight and you can play along from anywhere in the world by clicking here.

It’s still not certain if the show will get renewed.  It gets practically the same ratings as Minute to Win It and that somehow keeps sticking around.  Money Drop doesn’t give away a lot and it has to be relatively cheap, in TV terms, to do so I wouldn’t be shocked.  At this point I’d like to see it stick around also.  Like I said, they’ve drastically improved the show over the past few weeks, and adding the interactive game only helps it out.  If you’re a fan, cross your fingers and watch this week’s episode.

If this goes well I wonder if the show will go live next time. I certainly hope so.

At least I’ll have confidence in the questions here in the US. :) I played along with tonight episode of MPD, and I totally crashed because I wasn’t familiar with the girl group The Saturdays or the sport of netball (FYI, the question asked of a ladybird, tarantula, The Saturdays, and a netball team, which one had the most legs). I then played again, only to crash out a second time because I forgot the Royal Family doesn’t practice equal primogeniture, as the question asked of Charles, Andrew, Edward, or Anne, which of the Queen’s children is last in line to the throne. Duh! >.< And I feel I should have known that; I live in a Commonwealth realm, lol!

What’s the point of playing along live if you can just scream the answers at the TV?

  • Scott says:

Whatever happened to the good old days when game show seasons lasted longer than a mere 10-20 episodes? =(

  • Orlando says:

I would love to see an online free game, this tv show is the best I have seen in years and its a family orientated game, love it! So I hope the producers make a online game also.

Now if GSN could bring back interactive gameplay…all would be right with the world.

  • Rob says:

    Well, I tried.

I never got the first question on my screen.

I’m not surprised. I’ve never had good luck with interactive TV shows… :)

  • Marshal says:

Diddo, both questions didn’t work for me!

  • Rob says:

I never got the question either – looks like a failure…

  • Andrew says:

Didn’t work for me either. Way to test your game, fox/endemol.

  • Marshal says:

Tried for the new round, and that question doesn’t work either….FAIL!

  • Jason says:

I tried both Chrome and Internet Explorer on Windows and Mac… all I was able to put in my name but no question appeared.

  • TJ says:

Is this interactive thing pretty much a failure?

  • The Graduate Kid says:

Albany, NY. Questions haven’t loaded for me either. Even tried cleaning out the cache bin and restart the computer.

  • The Graduate Kid says:

Just tried clicking on Central time zone because the show airs there when it airs here. Same problem. Ticked off because I usually tape the show. Watch it in 23-26 real life minutes. Now, may as well watch at the right time. Also the above time post is Atlantic time, but I’m in the Eastern time zone.

  • TJ says:

I think it’s working now, guys. At least for me I see a question, and a message about the connection being restored.

  • Netstryke says:

Looks like the Online Game crapped out due to overflow in the East Coast I guess this was a major fail for the first run. I’m going to time shift and see if they fix it for the West Coast showing.

It’s EXACTLY Like Million Pound Drop’s online game but it looks like FOX didn’t beta test.

  • The Banker's Nephew says:

*Sigh* They finally do something with the show that really pleases me… And it doesn’t even work. TT_TT

  • James E. Parten says:

Watched the finale tonight. Did not even try to get into the interactive aspect. Probably would not have worked for me anyway, as the teevee is in one room and the computer is in the other, and one cannot see both at the same time.

I am still not entirely sold on this project. The concept of “playing not to lose” instead of “playing to win” doesn’t sit well with me.

The pace of the show has been increased, so that it is now a moderate amble rather than the molasses-in-January speed seen in the first episode. And Kevin Pollak demonstrated that he was getting into the spirit of the show.

If this is renewed, I’ll be a little surprised, as Fox will appear to be doing this out of desperation.

  • Dale says:

The game worked for me :D and it is very similar to the mpd online game in the way it works, i completely failed at the question about the which ball being heaver i thought it was a basketball but didnt go with it :/
