Merv Griffin, 82, has been hospitalized for a recurrence of prostate cancer, a spokeswoman said Wednesday. He was being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for cancer discovered during a routine examination a few weeks ago, said Marcia Newberger, spokeswoman for The Griffin Group/Merv Griffin Entertainment. Merv Griffin is the creator of hit games shows such as Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!. He’s also had some not game shows that you probably wouldn’t consider hits such as Monopoly and everyone’s favorite Ruckus. He is also the mastermind behind the upcoming game show appropriately titled Merv Griffin’s Crosswords. We can only hope Merv makes it through this.

My God, that’s awful. Cross your fingers everyone, and hope he makes it through this. If “Crosswords” is a hit (and it very well could be), I’m sure he would want to live to see his new creation become one. Heck, we would all want that.
Alex, you said this was a recurrence, when was he first diagnosed?

Hi there, Alex isn’t the only one who posts here, and I was the author of this article.
Merv was originally treated back in 1996, which makes this suck even more.

I hope Mr. Griffin makes it through all right with this. I have been a big fan of his work for as long as I can remember. He just has to stay in the game and he’ll win!

Griffin was reported to have said, “I’d rather play Jeopardy! than live through it.” GSNN has a similar article on it, and that’s what they quoted him as saying.
I was fortunate enough to be a contestant on Jeopardy!, Griffin’s brainchild. He may have had some flops, but stuff like J! and WoF is still around, and that just shows how much of a genius this guy really is. Hang in there, Merv.

My prayers are with him and his family. He’s one of the last old-school legends left.
