Horrible news just came in. One of television’s greatest icons, Merv Griffin, is not doing well with his second round of prostate cancer. The game and talk show idol was revealed to have prostate cancer in late June, and according to ET as of now sources are saying it “isn’t looking good.” Mr. Griffin’s representatives could not confirm nor deny. Merv Griffin is the creator of worldwide hit game shows Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! as well as his newest show Merv Griffin’s Crosswords which debuts September 10th across the country. I am doing a bit of publicity for Crosswords and have direct contact to people connected to him, so they do read this blog. If you have any good luck wishes, please post them as comments. We will post some in the near future. Good luck and get well very soon, Mr. Griffin.

That is indeed sad news. I wish him the best, and will keep him and his family in my prayers and thoughts.

Well, this sad event could not have come at such a bad time. We’re just one month before Wheel’s 25th Season Premiere, Jeopardy!’s 24th, and the debut of Crosswords, and this is very unfortunate. I wonder how many people will be watching all three now. What will stations carrying all three shows be doing? Well, in any event, let’s all say a prayer if we can.

Merv, if you’re reading this, PULL THROUGH, DON’T GIVE UP THE FIGHT! Get well, soon.
In the mean time, let’s look forward to Crosswords, and the new seasons of Wheel and Jeopardy! That’s what Merv would want.

Uhhh…how about we collectively pray for Merv first? The shows are secondary to the man’s survival.

This is sad news indeed. Merv Griffin is part of the minority of people in Hollywood that is still well-liked and respected by his peers and the general public. He is an honorable man with an honorable past behind him.
My family having a history with the same issues as Merv is dealing with, I wish him nothing but the best (as I always have), and being able to relate, he’ll be in my thoughts in the coming weeks. *Raises glass to Merv*

Wow, A month before the golden WOF anniversary, J!’s 24th and crosswords and Merv’s condition is in grave condition. Hold on Merv. You’ll get through this.

I hope Merv gets better. J! and WOF can’t survive without Merv and I hope Crosswords is a hit because Merv would have wanted it that way. Get well soon Merv!

Adam,
Merv has had no association with Jeopardy! or Wheel of Fortune for well over a decade, outside of the “created by” credit. In other words, both shows have done well without the creator having one iota of input.

I’ll be saying a prayer to Mr. Griffin as well. I’ve done quite a bit of reading on his background and had him as a report in school. He is an idol to me and I hope and pray that he recovers from this.
Get Well Soon.

Just caught his Biography this past week in the wee hours and was amazed again at all he has done. It goes without saying that I wish him all the best and hope he makes through this.

In the famous episode of the golden girls when Dorothy was on Jeopardy she called Merv Griffin the most beloved man in America and that just may be true. Hang in there Merv the whole world’s pulling for you.

I was devastated by the news of Merv’s passing. I got to meet Merv about 2 months ago while doing run-throughs for “Merv Griffin’s Crosswords.” He seemed to be in perfect health and was happy, laughing, etc. It is especially poignant for me now as I am scheduled to tape an episode of “Crosswords” on Wednesday. No matter what happens, we can be thankful as game show fans that he gave us two of the greatest shows of all time. Godspeed, Merv. You will be missed.
