Late Night Puppet Game Show Now Casting
UPDATE: I am being told that this is indeed for GSN, as we originally speculated. The show is slated to air this summer with a small order of half hour episodes. Sources are saying it’s the most expensive half hour show in GSN history. They are working with Jim Henson’s puppet company, but probably can’t use the Muppets due to the Disney connection. That would balloon the cost even more, not to mention tricky ownership issues. Given the description I’m imagining just using puppets of various celebrity figures, but that last part is speculation.
Also given that this is being billed as a late night show it looks like it won’t be airing until much later, like around 11:00PM ET. But older GSN watchers remember GSN had their most successful originals ever on at that hour, so that’s no issue. Casting is still going on for the show, so if you want to win up to $15,000 click here. Sounds…interesting at least. Could turn out to be something. They really need a hit badly. GSN hasn’t had a hit original since Newlywed Game since early 2009, and everything since has crashed and burned.
I’ve heard rumors about a puppet game show for some specific places, but it’s apparently coming to fruition. A casting notice just went up. You can win $15,000 by facing a panel of “celebrity puppets” who will determine who is lying and who is telling the truth. So take a show like I’ve Got A Secret, which was popular a few years back but expensive, but replace the expensive panelists with cheap puppets and there you go. A few months back I heard word of some group working with Jim Henson’s people to get a Muppet-hosted game show, and this could be it. We’ll find out, but any way to get more Muppets on the air is good with me, but who could it be more. Unless it’s just regular puppets, because then I start to care a whole lot less.
I’m waiting to get an email from someone with more information on the notice and then I’ll update this. But it’s for a cable comedy game show for $15,000 so it’s either for GSN, Comedy Central, or TBS. Any network more obscure than GSN won’t be offering $15,000 given that more popular networks barely offer more than that on weekly game shows. It’s late night and Comedy Central and TBS already have late night shows. Please correct me if you think some other cable network would do a late night comedy game show I obviously could be wrong but you can do the math and I’m very very rarely wrong about this math.
Go to this link to apply. Sounds like an interesting idea. No confirmed tape time just yet. Given the email address on the casting notice one guesses it’s trying to debut in 2010. So you should get to applying soon. Never a dull moment with game shows these days.
Allegedly.
EDIT: I just added the text in the first paragraph that is in bold. My mistake, sorry.

Muppet To Tell The Truth? Well, Kermit did appear on O'Hurley's version of TTTT, which some people didn't like, but I think he did better than some of the human panelists. I agree that we need more Muppets.
This just sounds like something GSN would do, given their head people’s recent run of failures (and the impending failure known as Baggage). It sounds like a ridiculous concept, and if you’re trying to aim at a younger audience (unlikely), why have it on in late night hours? Hopefully this project will get yanked before it hits the air.

April Fools?
Let’s do a little process of elimination here: Comedy Central has The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, both of which are establish shows on the network, so Comedy Central’s out. TBS has Lopez Tonight, which is doing very well for the Superstation-turned network, so they’re out. All fingers now point to three letters we all know and (I put it loosely) love……GSN. The real question is why would they put it on late at night? The last game show loosely based for late night on the network, the Bill Dwyer all-gay panel version of I Got A Secret, didn’t last long, so this wouldn’t make any sense. So you’re math would be correct, Mr. Davis.
It didn't last long, but I remember it got decent-to-good ratings.

Hmm. a panel of puppets? I'm not sure if even $15K would work as a top prize on a late-night show. $5K maybe, but $15K? If this is where GSN's going with this(& unless they find a way to get some of the Muppets out of the Jim Henson woodwork), I think I'll pass on that.
Sounds interesting, but to me this concepts seems like it would be best as a reincarnation of "Figure it Out" on Nickelodeon with kids trying to stump a panel of Muppets rather than the late night audience of adults.
Keep in mind, it could run on Comedy Central weekly at a 10PM or 10:30PM timeslot, similar to The Gong Show with Dave Attell a couple summers ago.
To joltman: Most people would consider 10-11 (I’m assuming you live in the Eastern time zone) as prime time. Late night programming usually starts at 11/10. But you could be right, it could air in that slot, wouldn’t be a bad companion to South Park.
^"You can win $15,000 by facing a panel of “celebrity puppets” who will determine who is lying and who is telling the truth."
This sounds quite like an all-puppet "To Tell The Truth" revival to me, this being hot on the heels of DirecTV's recent attention-grabbing promos using a rebuilt 1973-78 set. Should this be a revival of Truth, the set's already built…
But this will be one to watch, should the Muppets sign on.
* Emcee: Kermit the Frog
* Announcer: Clifford (emcee of "Muppets Tonight")
* Panelists: Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, Miss Piggy; fourth panelist would rotate from week to week, to keep things fresh (one of those rotating, or possibly regular instead of Gonzo, would definitely be Sam the Eagle)
The above configuration would be much more likely than anything else, because Kermit/Fozzie/Gonzo/Piggy all have built-in name recognition, Clifford has the voice for announcer work, and Sam would insist on the show being a high-class affair (which he won't get, more often than not).

Just want to clarify that the host/announcer/panel listing is my own personal hypothesis based on characterization and name recognition. I am not making any official announcement.
Oh good grief, this is a reality. GSN, why do you want to fail?
Actually, if the Muppets were to be "hired," who better to emcee, than Guy Smiley?
No wonder I don't watch GSN hardly at all these days – they are a mockery to the good names of Mark Goodson, Bill Todman, Bill Carruthers, Bob Stewart, Stephan Hatos, Monty Hall, Jack Barry, Dan Enright, Merrill Heater, Bob Quigley, and the many other men who came up with ACTUAL game shows – not crap like this! I bet Jim Henson wouldn't approve of his creations being used this way!

This sounds a lot like the classic short-lived game show "Liar's Club" … where a panel of celebs tried to tell you what a strange object's purpose was or the origin behind something, and contestants wagered on which answer they thought was correct.

Gsn is really getting out of hand with these stupid shows there last two originals fail. Gsn should just revive to tell the truth use the commercial set get a good host. and some d list celebrities it would be way cheaper. Whoever is running gsn is going to make gsn go off the air i could see this working on disney channel or nick but whos going to watch puppets on gsn?
How about Avenue Q – The Game Show?
I have to admit that I really enjoy watching the muppets on TV; that being said, a game show like the one that's being talked about here, probably wouldn't be my cup of tea. I liked the muppets being celebrity panelists on shows(Hollywood Squares, To Tell The Truth, etc), but a whole game show based on them probably isn't a good idea for a network like GSN. Comedy Central might be an ok place to put it but even i'm not sure that would work too well. I just wish GSN would spend money on acquiring shows like Sale Of The Century, Scrabble, Supermarket Sweep and Shop Til You Drop instead of making an expensive show like this.

If they got with Muppets To Tell the Truth or Liars Club, maybe my old Fark Photoshop contest entry will finally come true ;)
