Laila Ali Announced as Co-Host of “American Gladiators”

As much hell as I give Dancing With the Stars (and believe me it deserves to be given hell), it does seem like a decent place for D-list celebrities to go and revive their career. With Hulk Hogan as the lead host of NBC’s American Gladiators, it was announced that Laila Ali will be by his side as co-host. She stated in a line that clearly sounds she was told to say it, “It’s an honor to be reintroducing this American classic to a new generation of fans.” No word on the air date for the revival of American Gladiators, though we’d expect it to be on before 1 VS 100 which is still in limbo as shows like Phenomenon fail miserably.

Well, if nothing else, this revival has some star power behind it.

I am really excited about this. They are definitely focusing on the athletic side of the game, while also maintaining the hominess of the original show, which I think originally helped make it popular. I can see AG doing well in primetime.

Now, here’s to hoping we can see some ICE ICE BABY! :D

As long as they don’t WWE-ify Laila Ali (that is, actually allow her to do commentary and not just have her on just as eye candy), I’m sold.

I wonder if AG is going to get its production ramped up due to the WGA strike?

  • Chris Parsley says:

Id expect it to, as Moment of Truth has over at FOX for the same reasons.

Laila I think will be alright, I have my doubts on Hulk but we’ll see. I am a little dissapointed though that Mike Adamle isn’t involved with this. I’d like to see him amke an appearance on the premiere ep. and pass the torch to Hulk.

  • Adam says:

Marc Power, I’m with you on the fact that Mike Adamle isn’t doing it. IMO, he most definitely should have.

  • Adam says:

Speaking of 1 vs. 100, I wish it would come back. It would’ve stood a chance if only it hadn’t been for that god-awful “Chuck”, and whoever’s idea it was to put it on NBC’s schedule. And could somebody tell him to put DoND back on Mondays at 8 where it really belongs?

  • Marc Power says:

not to go OT but yeah I agree Adam, I don’t watch Sundays becuase a local affiliate airs the sunday ep. on Monday night and I just watch it then before WWE. speaking of which I am a little surpirsed their not trying to pair american gladiators with Saturday Night’s main event.

  • Marc Power says:

    excuse me I meant Friday.
