Keegan-Michael Key Hosts GSN’s Big Saturday Night; Awards Show Loses a Rerun
Two bits of GSN news for you. First off, it has been announced that former MadTV cast member will be the host of GSN’s Big Saturday Night, a three hour block of two original shows including live performances and gaming which can award in-studio and at-home players cash (of up to $5,000) and prizes over the next nine weeks. There will be two correspondents for the show: Ross Matthews (Ross the Intern from Jay Leno’s former Tonight Show) and Charissa Thompson (FOX Sports correspondent). The two new shows, again, are 20Q and the very fun Money List. Each show will run for 90 minutes because of added filler with the entire block but will be run in its normal one hour format in reruns.
GSN is looking for people in the LA area to be at the in-studio portion of Big Saturday Night and have the chance at some decent cash and prizes. If you’re free on a Saturday afternoon and want to take part, click here. Audience members will be “randomly” selected to play games during the block.
The other piece of news is a minor schedule change. You can call this a sign of what the Game Show Awards did in the ratings, but the show has already lost one rerun. It was originally scheduled to go on Saturday, June 13th, from 3:30PM ET to 6:00PM ET. That has been taken away and the regular lineup of Family Feud, Newlywed Game, Catch 21, and Millionaire will air instead. The Friday evening airing and Sunday afternoon rerun will air as normal for now. Check the PDF schedules for the full details.

What were the ratings for the show?
Right now I'm hearing it wasn't too great. I heard it was lower than the debut of Catch 21 and a lot lower than Newlywed Game, even a bit lower than some of the classics , and that's not too good considering the cost and massive publicity it got. It's why we're seeing one of the reruns away, and we'll see what happens in the future.
Maybe they've learned their lesson that no one will watch a bogus awards show. If it was real with real voting people might care. Where is your explanation about your paid involvement in the show?
