John Stefan Wins $100,000 on “Bingo America”

Edit: The video has sound now!

GSN can now proudly say they gave away more money to a contestant on their Bingo America than ABC did on National Bingo Night. Last Friday night, contestant John Stefan took home the main game bank of $1,447 and was the first contestant to match two $100,000 spaces to take home the grand prize on GSN’s popular interactive game show. It’s honestly refreshing to see. There hasn’t been this much excitement on GSN in a while, probably since Grand Slam, another risky big money show.

The video quality was good. Unfortunately the audio was dead. By the way, since you mentioned GSN GRAND SLAM I would like to inform you that the website http://www.grandslamshow.com dedicated to that exciting game show from last summer is gone. Do you know what is up with all that? I would like to inform you on both of these mentioned here on this blog. Thank you Alex!

Okay, so I wasn’t the only one with audio problems. The video was still good though. For whatever reason, I never understood the whole “choose until you get two that match” thing… Maybe I’m just thick. So now I get it, and it makes sense. Thanks for the video, hope the audio can be fixed.

  • I said it on a different message board, and will say it here too, that game (saw it first airing on Fri) was the first time in a long time actaully found myself happy for the player.

    WOW! Awesome Win!

Indeed, Quite refreshing to see someone win BIG on a GSN show again! It’s been a while. Congrats to John!

  • Jonathan Gabel says:

Thank you for fixing the audio! Great video, great audio, and certainly one of the top game show moments for 2008!

  • J.C. says:

I missed the actual show, but I did catch GSNLive today and they recapped the moment, as well as had an interview with the man himself.

  • Julia says:

OK…Was I the only one who was still not impressed? You would think that winning $100K would be impressive, but when it’s a luck of the draw on a show that’s so poorly produced, why should I be enthused?

  • Chris says:

Because it’s still the first big one day win on GSN in years, that’s why!

  • Julia says:

Big money does not make for a good game show. Yes, I understand that it’s nice to see GSN put some money into its game shows for once, but once the main game gets to be more than $1400 or $1600, I’ll be impressed. A crap shoot for $100,000 does not excite me at all, even if it’s big money for GSN. Russian Roulette took lots of skill to win the $100,000. Yes, there was the luck of the draw of the drop zones, but if you were really good at the bonus round, you could have two or possibly 3 zones left when you went for the $100,000, thus upping your odds.

I’ll say this one more time. Bingo America sucks. This $100,000 win has the same feeling as winning big money on Show Me the Money did. Who cared about that? Almost nobody.

Still not overly impressed by the bonus round, but I’m happy for the show, and happy for the contestant. Unfortunately, they went and ruined the exciting game show moment they had on Friday, with one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen, not only on Bingo America, but in all game shows I’ve ever watched. It was Monday’s episode during the bonus round. The contestant picked his first number, and the prize was revealed. When the next number picked was revealed, there was a question mark. Patrick Duffy said, “That’s today’s mystery prize.” He followed this IMMEDIATELY by saying, “…and tonight’s mystery prize is a laptop computer package.” Remember now, The mystery wasn’t revealed after it matched on the bonus board, but as soon as the first number was picked. What’s the point? Just have it say laptop package. I found this to be totally absurd, and, to me, in the world of game shows past and present, it trumps almost, remember, that’s almost, anything Patrick Wayne related.

Wow that came out of the blue! and it was the one ep. I haven’t seen AAGGGGHHHH!!! But that’s gotta be tough to do, i would think there’s only one possible match for $100K on the board. and i agree J.C. what they should have instead of the symbols is the word and a picture (like Whammy did).

thinking about that I think one thing they should add to the baord is the “bingo bonanza” which is a growing prize package (a la Gambit galaxy)

and lastly, unless I’m forgetting anyone, excluding Blackjack & poker shows and the web games thing, this is only the 6th time someone has won $100,000 or more on a GSN show, the others: Al Winchell ($102,150 on Russian Roulette), Todd Truly ($102,200 on Russian Roulette), Maria Lay ($102,000 on Russian Roulette), Ken Jennings (Grand Slam winner), and whoever it was that won the $250,000 for American Dream Derby (does anyone even remember that flop?)

  • yes but not cause I was watching it on GSN, it was actually hyped/promoted on the horseracing channel (they were there live) to air the dream derby race and take bets on it.

Remember tonight $100 bingos at home due to tax day!

  • J.C. says:

Uh, Marc that would be Ben that was complaining about the prizes not me.

  • Marc Power says:

oops my bad, must read slower,

  • Greg says:

This is even harder to win than SOTC’s “Winner’s Board”. Now that I think about, there should be a few “INSTANT WIN” spaces. If you get one of those, you automatically win the next prize you get.

  • Devon says:

That was really awesome! I always hope somebody can walk away with tons of cash and that did it.

  • David says:

The bonus game is beyond fixed… not shocking they gave the huge score to a veteran. It never takes anyone more than 4 picks to find a match; because it is predetermined. I can’t believe this sham hasn’t been called out yet.

Awesome for this guy though! Congrats to him.
