“Jeopardy!” Tournament of Champions Launches November 2nd

The highlight of each season of Jeopardy!, the annual tournament of champions, is quickly approaching.  It’s time for the 2011 Tournament of Champions, taking place from November 2nd through November 15th.  The 2011 Tournament of Champions invites 15 of its biggest winners of the year back to play again.  This time, however, $250,000 is up for grabs for the ultimate winner.  Included in the group of 15 is the winner of the College Championship and the Teacher’s Tournament.

Here’s a list of the people taking part.

  • Brian Meacham; Film Preservationist; Anchorage, Alaska
  • Buddy Wright; Operations Engineer; Fort Worth, Texas
  • Charles Temple; High School English Teacher; Ocracoke, N.C.
  • Christopher Short; Editor of Trivia Games; Crawfordsville, Ind.
  • Erin McLean; Junior at Boston University; Danvers, Mass.
  • Jay Rhee; Oncologist; Annapolis, Md.
  • John Krizel; Writer; Oceanside, N.Y.
  • Joon Pahk; Physics Teacher at Harvard University; Somerville, Mass.
  • Justin Sausville; Urologist; Baltimore, Md.
  • Kara Spak; Reporter at the Chicago Sun-Times; Chicago, Ill.
  • Mark Runsvold; Student and Waiter; Moscow, Idaho
  • Paul Kursky; Online Marketing Producer; San Francisco, Calif.
  • Roger Craig; Computer Scientist; Newark, Del.
  • Tom Kunzen; Geotechnical Engineer; Orlando, Fla.
  • Tom Nissley; Writer; Seattle, Wash.

Anyone want to make an early prediction on who’s going to win? My money is on Roger Craig.  The winner of the 2011 Tournament of Champions will win $250,000.  The second place winner is guaranteed a minimum of $100,000 and third receives $50,000.  The semifinalists will get $10,000 and each contestant knocked out in the first round gets $5,000.

  • My sentiments exactly. Roger Craig all the way.

  • Wayne says:

I’m just wondering why the past few years they haven’t started this tournament on a Monday for two full M-F weeks. It could still all be in sweeps weeks if they wanted.

    • MikeSant318 says:

It is all in sweeps weeks – just spread over parts of three instead of two full ones…
“Hey, it’s all about ratings, baby, and we got ‘em!”

  • Neville says:

    Joon Pahk!

And ditto Wayne in re starting on a Monday!

Not only did they announce the deatils of the TOC, but On-line Test Registration is open as well! Mid-January, Turesday the 17th (8pm EST), Wednesday the 18th (8pm CST, 7pm MST), and Thursday the 19th (8pm PST, includes Alaska and Hawaii). Potential audition cities include: Boston, Chicago, Cleveland (my choice – yes, I already registered), Dallas, Los Angeles, New Orleans, NYC, Philadelphia, Sacramento, and Wash.DC. Sign up while you can!

    Watch.
    Out.
    for.
    Joon.
    Pahk.

As a regular participant in Harvard College Bowl’s weekly meetings circa 1999-2000, I witnessed the swift intuition of Joon Pahk. I haven’t watched much Jeopardy! recently, but unless Pahk has been slumming, this trivia force of nature will wreak devastation, casting his opponents on the shoals of defeat!
