“Jeopardy” Schedules Online Tests; Adult Test Starts January 17th
Jeopardy! is well known for embracing modern technology. Take a look at their sets through the years for proof. Nothing shows it more, though, than their online exams to become a contestant. It’s the only show I know of that actually allows you to take the test at home and possibly become a contestant through that. If you want to be a contestant on the show, the exam is coming up and this is your chance to stand behind the famous board and win big money and the glory that comes from being a Jeopardy! champion. Exams for adults and regular programs, the annual “College Championship”, and the annual “Teen Tournament” will be happening the next few weeks.
The adult exam takes place from January 17th through January 19th. To try for the exam, you must register at Jeopardy!‘s website and sign up for your time zone. The Eastern Time Zone exam is January 17th, the Central/Mountain Time Zone exam is January 18th, and the Pacific Time Zone exam is January 19th. Each is at 8:00PM in your respective zone. You are allowed to take the exam in another zone if there are scheduling conflicts, so don’t worry. The test consists of 50 questions. You’ll have 15 seconds to answer each.
The “College Championship” test is open to college students on February 7th. Register by clicking here. The “Teen Tournament” exam is on January 31st. Click here for that.
For those that have taken the exams, do you have any tips for those about to?

My advice for taking the online Jeopardy! test: Go with your first guess. You’ve only got 15 seconds per clue, and the app is merciless for moving on to the next clue if you’re late. You’re not going to have time to second-guess if you think you’re wrong. Better to put _anything_ down than not at all.
By the way, I recorded video of my own attempt at last year’s online Jeopardy! test (which I passed, by the way). The video is online here:

I already registered for the test back in late October\ early November. It will be the third time that I have taken the adult test. Last years was a bit of a dosey, but hopefully the third time will be the charm for me. Good luck to everyone who registers, and hopefully that some of us Buzzerblog fans will make it to the next round.
Registered in mid-November for the Cleveland follow-up if I get through (nice bus ride down from Buffalo); haven’t made it past the computer part since the first OLT in 2006 (Chicago)…
That’s where I am going to if I make it to the next round. It’s an easy drive for me from where I live (Youngstown, OH). Hopefully we will see each other if we make it? Good luck ;)
I’m always surprised at how much harder the online test (even for the teen tournament) is than the questions on the actual show. I don’t see how anyone could pass this test and not know almost every question on the show.
That’s kind of the point, so that the contestants on the show can look as good as possible while those who didn’t/can’t make it on the show will feel good about watching and have fun playing along.
Watch the contestants all trying to hit the buzzer on almost every question–yes those that make it do know the answer to almost every question, but it becomes a test of reaction time and not falling to the pressure once they’re there.
I’m in that awkward spot where I’m too old to register for the Teen Tournament, but not old enough to register for the Adult test.
register anyway and take it for practice
What about the College Test?
You only have 15 seconds (down from 20 a few years ago) to answer a question and you don’t need to phrase it.
Just don’t forget to look at the category name, it will help you sometimes.
I’m just glad to see Canadians can participate this time, I don’t know how I’ll get to the audition if I get a call back but I’ll worry about that then.
