Ixnay on the osswordscray eviewpray

NBC has put the kibosh on the primetime preview of Merv Griffin’s Crosswords, previously scheduled for Saturday, September 8.  Instead, NBC will air an installment of Most Outrageous Moments at 8 PM Eastern and the NBC Fall Preview Special at 8:30 PM Eastern.

I thought NBC couldn’t sink any lower, well I guess I was wrong.

Please don’t tell me this is a sign of how bad the show would be doing.

NBC-”Proud and arrogant as a peacock!!!” and dumb as a donkey’s cousin.

I think they probably did this because there has been a lot of people wondering why they would air it, when in some markets it was not even airing on NBC. I think that was probably the reason.

Xavier gets it. Everybody else, thanks for playing.

This isn’t a sign that NBC is going lower than previously done, NBC is dumb and arrogant, or that the show’s going to tank. In this area, Crosswords will air on the CBS affiliate. If NBC goes through with the preview and I’m the affiliate of the local NBC affiliate, I would do anything to prevent the Crosswords preview from airing. That’s like going to Wal-Mart to buy something and the cashier or floorperson saying “You can get the exact same thing for $50 less down the street.”

Mike gave the perfect analogy. It’s all about business; why let your competition air a show you’re handling? “Temptation” will likely run into the same problem with non-My Network TV affiliates airing the show throughout the season.

Luckily, “Crosswords” and “Temptation” debut on Norfolk’s NBC and MNTV stations, respectively.

Adding on to my previous post, here’s another scenario, from Invision.

In Nashville, “Crosswords” airs at 12 noon on the FOX affiliate. Had NBC gone through with this, the Nashville affiliate would’ve aired (and advertised for) a show that AIRS AGAINST their noon newscast.

NBC’s not as dumb as some of you think. They’re trying to get business from their affiliates…you don’t make business helping the competition. That’s Marketing 101.

Mike, I’m not done “playing” yet!!!

I’m in the Lexington, KY market and we’re not getting Merv’s show or Temptation so I don’t give a rat’s hind end if they show it or not. I’m just angry at NBC jerking around with the game show fans who were promised a sneak peek.

Bobby, you are done. First, I’m sorry your area might not get either show. Second, NBC never promised anything. The level of contempt you have for NBC in making a sound business move is outrageous and narrow-minded.
